Kochi, 24 May 2023: Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) Academy is launching the Urban Policy Fellowship 2023 in partnership with Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), South Asia for early to mid-career professionals interested and working in the Urban Policy space across Kerala. Registrations to apply for this fellowship are open till June 15, 2023.
The five-month Fellowship Program from June to October 2023 will be organised for a cohort of select 15 young professionals working in the urban domain and will equip them to build their careers in urban policy and will provide a platform for systematic inquiry into urban policy challenges. The Urban Policy Fellowship is a demand-driven, practical, capacity-building program that will help and mentor the fellows to capacitate their skills in policy research and intervention in the local urban ecosystem for a positive change.
The fellows will be trained on key urban thematics like Urban Mobility, Urban Governance, Urban Housing, Urban Finance, Urban Technology, and Urban Infrastructure. All the sessions will be interactive and activity-oriented to familiarise with the various aspects of urban policies and develop an understanding of key statistical techniques necessary to critically evaluate public policies in the cities. During the fellowship, each fellow will work on one intervention project to discuss local issues from the participant's town and strategize ways to address the urban challenges through discussion and debates in their respective municipalities. The aim is to enhance their skills in policy research and intervention in the local urban ecosystem and bring out a report, article/summary of their findings and actions at the end of the fellowship and present it to the local body to advocate for change.
The fellowship is a platform for early professionals in urban policy to get first-hand training from experts in the field, knowledge transfer, and policy formulations on a continuing basis. It's a big opportunity for candidates to engage with high-ranking bureaucrats, academicians, and policy influencers on structural and administrative reforms in the field of urban governance. The fellowship offers mentorship by experts in the field of Urban Mobility, Urban Governance, Urban Housing, Urban Finance, Urban Technology, and Urban Infrastructure.
This fellowship will give more insights and a live experience to youngsters who are keen to play an active role in Kerala's Urban Development. The program is designed in such a manner that experts from various fields of Urban Development are going to engage fellows during the fellowship period, and they will bring global and regional experience and expertise that will be shared with the fellows.
The Fellowship is structured to teach select Kerala youth about the urban praxis existing in the state. It aims to bring the youth to the discussion table with all the stakeholders pertinent to the state's Urban growth and decisions while equipping them with the skill sets in order to bring a positive change to Kerala’s urban ecosystem in the coming years.
