Kozhikode, Dec , 2022: Government Cyberpark spearheads Malabar's IT boom with double the export revenue from previous years. Overcoming the challenges created by the pandemic, Cyberpark has achieved more than double the development and revenue growth compared to the previous financial year. In the fiscal ended March 31, 2022, Cyberpark earned an export revenue of Rs. 55.7 crore. The employment opportunities created by several new companies in the park are indications of the growth trajectory of the IT sector in the Malabar region.
The Cyberpark has seen 17 companies start operations since January 2022, throwing up job opportunities. As of now, occupancy is roughly 98 per cent, leaving space for a few plug-and-play units. Under the warm shell scheme, where companies themselves ready facilities, the occupancy level is total. The park authorities are awaiting clearance from the Government for the construction of a new 4-lakh sq. ft. building where 75 per cent space would be for ITs and the rest for commercial (Non-SEZ) space. Expression of Interest (EOI) has been invited from co-developers to construct the building. The authorities have also set the ball rolling for football and badminton turfs, basketball courts and other facilities for the staff.
The Cyberpark with an employee strength of 107 across six companies earned an export revenue of Rs. 3.01 crore in 2017-18. This rose to Rs. 8.1 crore in 2018-19 with 20 companies and 482 employees. In 2019-20, it was Rs. 14.76 crore and staff strength rose to 575 employees across 38 companies working in the Cyberpark. In 2020-21, it saw companies rise to 58 employing 764 employees and earning export revenue of Rs. 26.16 crore. In the last fiscal year when export earnings grew to Rs. 55.7 crore, the park saw the staff strength of 1200 across 67 companies. Currently, there are 2000 employees in 84 companies. Given the trend, export earnings are expected to be more than double this fiscal year.
Cyberpark General Manager Vivek Nair said, "Cyberpark has played a significant role in Kerala’s IT development, especially in Malabar where it is treading a path of progress annually. The aim is to provide more facilities to employees and help the sector grow further. In terms of export earnings, employee and company numbers, the park has witnessed substantial growth over the years and this will continue in the coming years. More and more big companies are keen to move to Malabar, giving the park and the IT sector in Malabar fresh impetus.”
CAFIT president Abdul Gafoor said, "The interest shown by big IT companies to operate in Kozhikode is a good indicator and this will create a lot of employment opportunities for the youth in Malabar. Kozhikode is one of the regions with the best talent pool in Kerala. Acknowledging this, companies entering Kerala are showing keen interest to work out of this region which has world-class facilities and a good working environment.” He added that the Cyberpark development activities and the openings for youth should give the IT sector in Kerala a big boost.
