ART Power HK ends on a high note following a 15-month campaign supporting the Hong Kong arts community during the pandemic

ART Power HK ends on a high note following a 15-month campaign supporting the Hong Kong arts community during the pandemic

Hong Kong: ART Power HK, the community-wide and non-commercial campaign, comes to an end on 30 June 2021 following 15 months serving the Hong Kong arts community during the pandemic. Initiated as a four-month community campaign that kicked-off in March 2020 to put a spotlight on the arts following the cancellation of activities during the city’s March 2020 Arts Month, the campaign was later extended as the extent of the pandemic became apparent.

The core objective of ART Power HK has been to maintain momentum for the local arts sector during these uncertain times. Through the creation of a bilingual online Platform hosting the latest art news, activities and events from its ever-growing list of Partners, the campaign attracted a wide local and international audience who otherwise could not have accessed Hong Kong’s arts and culture activities due to ongoing social distancing measures and travel restrictions.

As a community-wide and non-commercial campaign, ART Power HK was able to highlight Hong Kong’s role as a unified cultural and arts hub. Constructive and positive conversations took place, through both curated content and online networking opportunities. Partners used the ART Power HK platform and social media channels to connect with the community and enable a renewed focus on the diversity and depth of Hong Kong’s arts scene.

The campaign has shown the resilience, strength, and positivity of the Hong Kong arts community. When hurdles were met, ART Power HK responded with united and collaborative tactics from Partners and Supporting Partners. Through the campaign, the arts community united to showcase that arts and culture are an essential foundation of a robust and creative society.

S. Alice Mong, Executive Director of Asia Society Hong Kong Center, the Hosting Partner of the campaign, said: “As the ART Power HK campaign comes to an end, we would like to thank our Partners, the arts and culture organisations that make Hong Kong so unique, and the many supporters whose donations made the campaign possible. Asia Society Hong Kong Center is delighted to have been the Hosting Partner of this campaign and will be ensuring the legacy of ART Power HK by creating a digital archive of curated content for future audiences.”

Achievements

ART Power HK earned the support of 169 Partners from across the arts ecosystem, including museums and institutions, galleries, auction houses, corporate sponsors of the arts, NGOs and educational institutes, as well as Supporting Partners and Media Partners. The campaign created an organically grown community and audience who engaged with the latest news from Hong Kong’s art community through the bilingual Platform which published over 800 pieces of content and highlighted an additional 750 online and in person events during the campaign. Across the 15-month campaign, the Platform gained over 252,000 page views with 80,000 unique users, reached international audiences across 143 countries, while gaining a strong local following with 75% of viewers based in Hong Kong.

Content curated by ART Power HK included the 'ART Power HK Online Talks Programme' which hosted 22 talks, with 102 high profile speakers and over 8,500 viewers. The 'HK Artist Spotlight’ series featured 19 episodes, each putting the spotlight an established or emerging local artist who was invited to share their art journey and perspectives. This original content will continue to be available on the ART Power HK YouTube channel. The series has so far been viewed over 5,200 times. The ART Power HK campaign also employed a Graduate Ambassador, who earned the contract position following a competition for the placement.

Kiri Sinclair, Founder & Director of Sinclair, and a member of the ART Power HK Working Group, said: “Art has the power to stimulate, galvanize, unite and create positive change. It was important to us that during the pandemic the community could access the arts and draw inspiration from Hong Kong’s can-do attitude and resilience that has been encompassed in all facets of this campaign. ART Power HK was able to bring the arts online to allow audiences locally and around the world to continue to enjoy arts content and conversations during the pandemic. We are honoured to have been of service to our community during these difficult times and hope that the spirit of collaboration continues as we look towards a hopeful post-pandemic era”.
