Talking about Menstruation has long been considered taboo, and period leaves have been a perplexing dilemma for many companies. Breaking down stereotypes, Glad U Came became the first PR agency to announce a period leave for its menstruating employees. With 90 per cent of its employees being women, the agency recognises the importance of the hour and believes that period leaves are something every working woman deserves. Glad U Came aims to provide a supportive work environment for its employees and encourages other businesses to follow suit.
In any event, most women try to force themselves to go to work. In most cases, this is due to a fear of being perceived as weak or unable to do their jobs if they reveal menstrual-related problems to their bosses. Glad U Came's policy would allow employees with painful menstruation or menopausal symptoms to work remotely and take a predetermined number of paid leave days each year. It's time to admit that women menstruate and that taking a day off to deal with the discomfort is appropriate.
"We are a young and small team of 25 people; 21 of them are women," Maddie Amrutkar, Founder of Glad U Came, said of the new policy. Menstruation is something she has to deal with every month, and this is the least we can do to help her feel better. Period leave, in my opinion, is a fundamental human right that every woman is entitled to. The goal is to reduce the stigma around menstruation and make it simpler for women experiencing period pain to take a break."
