Nanjangud: BJP MLA B Harshavardhan has strongly criticized the revised school textbook for omitting to refer to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as the "architect of the Constitution."
In a press statement on Monday, the MLA, while taking serious exception to the deletion, wondered as to why the reference was removed. But such omissions would not be taken lightly. There is no question of compromising on such issues, he added.
The MLA said he, along with Mr. V Srinivas Prasad, MP, would meet the Chief Minister, Mr. Basavaraj Bommai, on June 8 in Mysuru to submit a request to continue with the old textbook and thus maintain the status quo. The government must also take action against those who are responsible for the omission. "We will also request the Chief Minister not to allow such lapses. Any such deletion would cause embarrassment to the party and the government. I have not been able to get to Bengaluru to meet the Chief Minister because of the MLC elections," he said.
The MLA said that there is a strong link between social consciousness, the concepts of nationalism, justice, and equality enshrined in the Constitution, and several articles written by Dr. Ambedkar. Therefore, Dr. Ambedkar would continue to be referred to as the architect of the Constitution forever.
