As Emergency Medicine Departments are very vital in the modern era, all the medical colleges in the State will establish this section by 2024, said Dr Mohanan Kunnummal, vice chancellor, Kerala University of Health.
Inaugurating EMERGENZ 2022, the largest Emergency Conclave in Asia, being organised by Aster MIMS Kozhikode, he said that those Medical Colleges which do not have the Emergency Medicine Department may not be able to serve the society properly. He pointed that there are severe scarcity of trained professionsals in Emergency Medicine in the country and the Kerala Government would take all steps to ensure that their services are made available here.
Dr Azad Moopen, Chairman and managing director of Aster DM Healthcare, said that EMERGENCE 2022 will be a milestone to create awareness about the latest developments in Emergency Medicine treatment among the common man as well as doctors and other health professionals.
Mr. Farhan Yasin, Regional Director, Kerala and Oman Cluster of Aster, said that Aster MIMS and Dr Venugopalan PP, chairman, EMERGENCE 2022, was instrumental in creating awareness on the need for establishing Emergency Medicine Departments in the country. Dr Venugopalan made a presentation about Emergency Medicine.
Dr K N Gopakumaran Kartha presented memtoes to the chief guests. Dr Bipin Batra delivered the keynote address. Dr Ramesh Bhasi, Padmashree Dr Subroto Das, Dr Abdulla Cherayakkatt, Dr Abraham Mamman, Dr Kate Douglas, Prof Parag Singhal, Dr Sweta Gidwani, Dr Sudha Krishnanunni, Dr Mehroof Raj, Dr Lili M and Ms. Sheelamma Joseph spoke.
Scientific sessions and classes will conclude on May 29. Thirteen workshops, two-stream scientific sessions, keynote sessions, special streams for emergency medicine staff and paramedical staff, various scientific competitions like oral presentation, poster presentation and quiz, scenario based discussion, problem solving and decision making, CPR competition, cultural evening, Banquet are part of the Conclave.
As part of the Conclave a pre-conference workshop on 'Neonatal Resuscitation Program: a workshop teaching Emergency Life Saving concepts for Newborns' and 'Rhythm - Practical ECG Workshop was held to help both doctors and nurses to get acquainted with treatment.
The Epigon-Emergency care Workshop on basic life saving skills, 'Safe I3' workshop on Safe Infusion Practice and Infection Control, Erimia - Workshop on Wilderness Medicine, Point of care ultrasound, aero medical transport workshop, Toxicology workshop, Disaster management workshop and Procedural sedation and workshop on trauma was organised at various hospitals in Malabar region.
