SOUNDS OF BHAPANG TO REVERBERATE AT THE DELPHIC FOLK MUSIC PROGRAMME 'ALMAST JOGI'

Jaipur, 26 May: As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, for the preservation and promotion of folk art, music and culture, the Delphic Council of Rajasthan is organising 'Almast Jogi', a programme dedicated to Rajasthani folk art, on Saturday, 28 May. Renowned Bhapang maestro, Jumma Jogi will perform with his group in the programme. The event will be held at JKK's Krishnayan from 6 pm onwards.

President, Delphic Council of Rajasthan, Ms Sreya Guha informed that ‘Bhapang’ is the heritage of Mewati music culture and the identity of Rajasthani folk music. In the present environment, this programme is being held to keep alive the culture of fading folk arts, folk songs and folk musical instruments such as Bhapang, etc. and to connect the new generation to them.

Ms Guha further said that Jumma Jogi's performance of 'Bhapang Vadan' along with his group of other 5 artistes will make this folk music programme more interesting and impressive. They will be performing on Chimta, Harmonium, Dholak, Bhapang and Manjire.

Hailing from Pinan village of Alwar, Jumma Jogi is known for his satirical songs on social issues (corruption, social discrimination, illiteracy) along with traditional songs. Many of his songs focused on girl child education are very popular among the public. The pleasing music composed by Jumma, who started playing Bhapang at the age of 15, is loved by people in urban and rural areas as well as internationally. Jumma Jogi has also performed at the iTunes Festival in London and has been a part of the Dharohar band.

It is to be noted that the Delphic Council of Rajasthan is continuously organizing various programmes related to art and culture. Every month one online and one stage program is organized under its banner. In the last year, 28 online Delphic dialogues, art workshops, theatrical staging of Hasya Chudamani, dance drama titled Game of Dice and film screening of Mazar-e-Laila Majnu have been successfully organized.
