Jaipur, 28 April: Book, ‘Dastavez of Rungtas’ will be launched on 30 April at 5 pm at ITC Rajputana in Jaipur. The book is a record of the historical legacy of the Rungta family hailing from Baggar in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan as well as the author, Kishan Rungta’s impressions of past events that occurred in the family. Entry to the event is only by invitation.
Born in a traditional Marwari family in Bombay, Kishan Rungta was an icon-a man with a personality that was diverse, multi-faceted and respectable. From being a Ranji Trophy player and Chairman of BCCI Selection Committee for years, to his love and passion for photography, socializing and ‘Shikaar’ while shifting to Jaipur to set up one of the largest and first organized iron & steel industry of Rajasthan, Man Industries on the invitation of Prime Minister Sir Mirza Ismail in 1942, to becoming a conservationist, Kishan Rungta did it all with excellence.
The beautiful cover of the book shows the ornate ‘Darwaza’ of the ancestral ‘Haveli”’ or palatial home of the Rungta family at Baggar in Rajasthan. The book describes the author’s ancestors vividly as he recalls them with many facts and incidences of their work culture, the importance of the Rungta family in the Cotton Trading & Stock Exchange in Mumbai, the growing up of the children of the family, his brother P. M. Rungta, the family helpers, etc. The book also showcases the importance of women in the family and the author talks about them with a lot of pride, showing the forward-thinking and mindset of the family. There is also a chapter on the author’s wife, ‘Dropadi’ who was unwaveringly supportive of his every decision and changed herself by adopting the customs and traditions of the family. It is worth noting that earlier, Mr Rungta wrote a book ‘Stalking Tigers on Foot’, on his life of ‘Shikaar’ and thoughts on conservation. This book was launched in 2017.
