Focus to be in infra development in IT: Riyas Mohammed

Kozhikode: 27, March 2022: Public Works and Tourism Minister PA Mohammad Riyas has said the government expects major headway in the IT sector through infrastructure development. Inaugurating the 'Reboot 2022' mega job fair at the Government Cyber Park here on Sunday, he said that with the future generations in mind, infrastructure development would get focus.

A major boost was being given to IT-enabled startups and this was reflected in their numbers growing to 4,000 from as low as 300 in 2016. While a standstill was witnessed during the pandemic, the IT sector not only remained insulated but made a giant leap. And this was continuing as several new companies had come forward to invest in Kerala, creating more than 10,000 jobs.

The Minister said innovative projects had been formulated in tourism, to attract people, including those in the IT sector. Taking a cue from the work-from-home culture in the IT sector, the Government proposed to launch green tourism in attractive destinations. It was important that employment opportunities needed to be created to suit the needs and tastes of the new generation, he added. The Minister said it was the Government's endeavor to make as much development possible in the IT sector.

Kerala State IT Parks CEO John M said the collaboration of various companies and institutions in the IT sector was highly admirable. Such mega job fairs provided youth a big opportunity for aspirants.

CAFIT president K.V Abdul Gafoor presided over the function. Cyber Park General Manager Vivek Nair, former CAFIT president P.T Harris, vice-president Kalathil Karthik, and VP Suhail were present.

More than 13,000 candidates participated in the two-day fourth mega job fair. The fair, held from 2016 to 2018, was restarted this year after Covid-19 showed signs of subsiding.
