Jaipur, 27 February: The 2-day 'Sang Kabir Music Festival' in collaboration with Bikaner based cultural organisation, Lokayan and Rajasthan Kabir Yatra concluded in Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) today. ‘Sang Kabir’ aimed to increase communal harmony, spirituality and encourage creativity. On the final day of the festival, the audience enjoyed mellifluous performances by renowned artistes like – Himanshu Bajpai, Vedanth Bharadwaj and Neeraj Arya's Kabir Cafe.
The evening began with ‘Kabir ki Dastaan- Musical Dastaangoi’ by Himanshu Bajpai from Lucknow who is a Sahitya Akademi Award winner and Vedanth Bharadwaj from Chennai, also renowned for scoring the music of many feature films including the critically acclaimed Feature film- His Father’s Voice in 2019. ‘Dastangoi’ is the art of Urdu storytelling that originated in the 13th century and was prevalent in the Lucknow-Delhi region. After a few centuries, it had faded away. The modern ‘dastangos’ (storyteller) have made ‘dastangoi’ a medium through which they raise awareness about important societal issues and musically reiterate stories of the past. During the performance, they presented the couplets and teachings of Kabir through recitation of anecdotes and songs.
The festival came to a close with an electrifying performance of Neeraj Arya’s Kabir Café, a Mumbai based folk fusion band known for performing songs composed out of Saint Kabir's Dohas. The band's line-up consisted of Neeraj Arya (Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar), Vikram & Viren Solanki (Percussions and Drums), Mukund Ramaswamy (Violin), and Poubuanpou Britto KC (Bass Guitars and Backing Vocalist) and Piyush Acharya (Harmonium).
Through their performance, they ensured that the verses of Kabir Das were accessible to the rest of the world not only in age-old dohas but also through flavours of pop, rock, reggae, and occasional Carnatic music.
Sang Kabir Art Circle
As a part of the Sang Kabir Art Circle, a session on ‘Exploring Speech & Sound’ by Darshan Singh was organised. In the session, people learned to immerse themselves in the journey of sound vibrations through ‘Kabir Vaani’ and experienced the presence in the oneness of their being.
Drum Circle
Similarly, the audience drummed together and dances their hearts out at ‘Drum Circle’ by art curator, poet and artist, Manu. Everyone gathered around in a circle while the facilitator guided them with fun games to fall in rhythm and enjoy.
