Jaipur : The much-awaited Jaipur Polo Season 2022 presented by Johnnie Walker Refreshing Mixer Non-Alcoholic will begin on 1 February at the Rajasthan Polo Club (RPC). It will be on till 27 February. The delay by a month this year too has been owing to the Covid-19 pandemic situation as well as the extreme cold in Jaipur during the month of January.
The highlight of the season will once again be a 16 goal Jaipur Open Tournament for the Brig. HH Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh, MVC Jaipur Cup. This Tournament will be from 21 February to 27 February. This tournament has been sponsored by Carysil. This high-handicap match was played last year as well as a part of the Jaipur Open Championship. This season a +8 handicap player, Tomas F Llorente from Argentina will also be participating. This was informed by the HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur today at a Press Conference at the Ashok Club.
The Honorary Secretary of Rajasthan Polo Club (RPC), Mr. Digvijay Singh and Maharaj Narendra Singh were also present on the occasion.
The 14-goal Sirmour Cup will be held from 14 February to 20 February. It has been sponsored by Shree Cement.
Maharaja Padmanabh Singh further informed that looking at the success of the match and huge enthusiasm last year, the Ladies’ Polo Match will be held once again as a part of the Jaipur Polo Season. The idea is to encourage women to increasingly take up the game of horse polo. It will be held on 26 February and will be known as the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation Ladies Polo. This has been sponsored by Audi.
The Rajmata Gayatri Devi Memorial Cup (8 goals) will be played from 1 February to 6 February. It has been sponsored by the Rambagh Palace Jaipur.
The second tournament of the season will be Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Gold Vase (10 goals) from 7 February to 13 February. It has been sponsored by Royal Gems & Arts, Jaipur. Similarly, the RPC Cup (6 goals) will be held from 14 February to 27 February. There will also be an Out of the Hat tournament from 28 February to 6 March to promote young talent and upcoming polo players.
The other Exhibition Matches to be played will be HH Rajmata Padmini Devi of Jaipur International Shield on 19 February. It has been sponsored by Dia Color. Maharaj Prithi Singh Baria Cup will be held on 12 February. Similarly, Raghu Sinha Mala Mathur Memorial Cup will be held on 5 February. It has been sponsored by Raghu Sinha Mala Mathur Charitable Trust.
The top polo players of the game will be participating: Tomas F Llorente (+8); Augustin Grassi Grossi (+7); Manuel F Llorente, Chris Mackenzie, Juan Cruz Losada (+6 each); Daniel Otamendi, Lance Watson and Simran Shergill (+5 each); HH The Maharaja of Jaipur, Samir Suhag and Syed Shamsheer Ali (+4 each); Gonzalo Yanzon and Lt Col Vishal Chauhan (+3 each); Charlie Tighe and Salim Azmi (+2 each) and Uday Kalaan (+1). Some officers from the Army will also be participating in the polo tournament.
