Jaipur: Hailing from Jaipur, Avijit Singh Badnore is the Director and Chief Marketing Officer of India’s new auction house, Historic Auctions Pvt. Ltd that specializes in conducting automobile and automobilia auctions. A hotelier by profession, he is a keen classic car and motorcycle collector and a major proponent of the movement in Rajasthan. Along with the other founders of the Auction House, Avijit is responsible for identifying historic cars for sale, inspecting their condition, as well as collecting cars and curating the auction. Apart from handling, marketing operations of the establishment, preparing a list of suitable vintage and classic cars for the auction, understanding the value of the car, getting the buyer and seller a decent market price are other activities he is involved in.
Talking about the objective of setting up Historic Auctions, he said that the vintage and classic cars space is an unorganised market in India. The directors of the company while interacting with various international car collectors and auctions houses abroad, realised the huge gap existing in the Indian market for a proper auction house in India for vintage and classic cars. Historic Auctions is founded by renowned collectors, connoisseurs and automotive historians of international repute. They hail from different parts of the country which makes it easier to access vintage cars in different locations. There are many vintage car owners who do not know the value of their cars. The auction house provides a transparent and convenient platform for newcomers and seasoned collectors to a wide variety of classic automobiles, automobilia, and other collectables across various eras, via online auctions, live auctions and bespoke private sales.
Historic Auctions was inaugurated recently in Museo Camera in Gurgaon. It was attended by Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur, Gul Panag, MK Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar and many known car enthusiasts from around the country. It held its first online auction in December 2021 which featured automotive art by Raja Muzaffar Ali and collectible cars. The first offline auction will be held on 6-8 January 2023 in Baroda as a part of the 10th edition of 21 Gun Salute ‘Concours d’Elegance 2023’.
Avijit Singh Badnore also serves as the Secretary of the Rajputana Automotive Sports Car Club, based out of Jaipur and is a key figure in organising the annual Jaipur Vintage Car Rally. Apart from this, he is an Executive Committee Member of the Heritage Motoring Club of India (HMCI) and works extensively towards the rights of vintage and classic vehicle owners.
