Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Dubai lit up in song yesterday with Expo World Choir, a jubilant celebration brought to life through the international language of music. Irish conductor, David Brophy led a group of over 1000 participants from 142 different countries through a 70-minute performance featuring popular Irish and international songs, including You Raise Me Up, U2’s One and The Cranberries’ Zombie to name a few hits.
Comprising of participants from Pavilions across Expo 2020 Dubai, choral members from all over the UAE, school groups a 120-strong professional choir and a group of soloists from Ireland’s National Concert Hall, families, friends and so many others, Expo World Choir was an initiative from the Ireland Pavilion, echoing the over-arching Expo 2020 Dubai theme of uniting the world through shared experiences. Participants ranged in age from 5 to 85.
Soloists from Ireland’s National Concert Hall included Dana Masters, Iarla Ó Lionáird and Jerry Fish; an eclectic array of Irish talent to support the choir. The group delivered an uplifting performance of popular Irish and international songs, specially arranged by David for this once-in-a-lifetime event. Highlights included the beloved classic, ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Secret Garden in addition to U2's ‘One’ and Moloko’s ‘Sing It Back!’; familiar favourites with a moving effect on spectators.
David Brophy is no stranger to the Irish music scene, having collaborated with a number of noteworthy talents such as with U2, Christy Moore, Sinéad O’Connor, Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Duke Special, Celtic Thunder, Nathan Carter, Daniel O’Donnell, Imelda May, Jack L, Phil Coulter and The Coronas. David’s glittering career is a testament to his unparalleled skills as a conductor on the world-stage

Songs performed during the Expo World Choir performance will also be featured in the ‘The Irish Songbook’; a collection of popular Irish songs set to be released on 17th March (St. Patrick’s Day). These songs will be explored and reinterpreted live at the Ireland Pavilion and other venues throughout the duration of Expo 2020, Dubai.
Expo World Choir was a stirring representation of the Ireland Pavilion’s theme of ‘Putting Creativity at the Centre of the Human Experience’, bringing together all of the participating nations at Expo 2020 Dubai together in a collective endeavour and collaboration to sing and unlock the transformative power of song.
Music and creativity are at the heart of Irish culture, giving rise to an internationally recognised reputation for musical excellence reflected in the theme of the Ireland Pavilion; ‘Putting Creativity at the Centre of Human Experience’.
