Wings of Hope with Burjeel for Pink campaign

UAE : Burjeel Hospital, private healthcare facility providing specialized healthcare complemented by a warm and personalized human touch organised a comprehensive open forum discussion on early detection, non-invasive treatments, surgical solutions, coping and surviving breast cancer on Tuesday 26th of October.

 

The panel discussion broadcasted live on TV and social media channels as well and the topics were discussed from a multidisciplinary point of view with doctors of different specialties raising awareness on breast cancer as the most common for women. Bloggers present helped in reaching a wider audience aiming to raise awareness.

 

The Wings of hope launch for the expert panel discussions on breast cancer was hosted on the 2nd Floor, Auditorium and held between 11:30am and 1:00pm. The expert panelists included doctors who have successfully treated breast cancer patients such as Dr. Abdel Rahman Ahmed Omer - CEO & Consultant - Colorectal Surgeon, Dr. Toufic Ata - Consultant - General surgery and Laparoscopic Bariatric, Dr. Sausan Abdul Rahman - Consultant - Obstetrics and Gynecology and Dr Thanda Lucy Ann Joshua, Specialist – Medical Oncology.

 

The event featured two breast cancer survivors who joined in to share their journey and will include Engr. Lilac H. Schonberg and Mrs. Mona Abdel-Aty. Burjeel Hospital has special Offers valid from October 1 – 31, 2021 for mammogram Screening (T&C Apply). Their speech encouraged women to fight cancer and get screened early. According to department of health, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women, It accounts for 25% of all cancers, 45% of cancer in females in 2011. Worldwide about 1.1million women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

 

Key points discussed by the Doctor's covered breast cancer from all perspective. For instance, Dr. Sausan highlighted to the audience what are the risk factors for women having breast cancer, at what age do doctors advise patients to undergo mammography, how often women should go for a mammogram, if breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast cancer and if Mammograms are painful.

 

 

 

 

Dr Thanda showed how positive energy matters during treatment and offer advice for women who are afraid of screening or undergoing treatment. She highlighted the treatment options and how patients could know if the treatment is working for them.

 

Dr. Abdel Rahman addressed why patients need to go for mammography and about breast cancer surgery has side effects. He talked about how effective surgery is and can the cancer come back after it for those who are concerned post-treatment. Dr. Toufic addressed patients concerned about both their breasts needing to be removed if a patient is at risk of developing breast cancer. He also highlighted that if there is a history of breast cancer, what precautions are needed advocate the idea of genetic cancer tests.

Overall, the intention was to create more awareness of Breast cancer and ensured that everyone takes the right precaution and realise that early intervention can be a life saver for nearly 98% of those affected and those who get screened in the early stages.
