Idukki: Fourteen year-old Balu and his parents were in a great surprise when they saw Aster Medcity team, including doctor Naveen Haridas of Neurology Department, who was the part of medical team at their door. The hospital team called on Balu to hand over him ‘vishu kaineettam’ and do follow-up checkups. Balu had undergone a surgery at Aster Medcity last year.
Balu, son of Rajan and Lakshmi, who resides at a tribal hamlet at Mankulam Panchayat, Adimali, was admitted to Aster Medcity with rapidly failing vision. Scanning done at the hospital showed a very large intracranial tumour and he required an early surgery to salvage whatever is possible of his vision. Balu was referred to Aster Medcity by Dr. Dalvin from Ernakulam General Hospital. Considering his financial condition, the surgery, which cost Rs 5 lakh, was provided at free of cost with the support of DM Foundation headed by Dr. Azad Moopen and Aster Sick Kids Foundation.
After discharged from the hospital, Balu was not able to visit the hospital for follow up checkups due to COVID-19 spread. It was in this context, the hospital management decided to send a team to his home for follow up checkups. After handing over ‘Vishu Kaineettam’, Dr. Naveen Haridas examined Balu.
Aster Medcity will ensure his follow up treatments and tests.
