Jaipur: On the concluding day of the online session, 'Murti Shilp' organized by Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK), the participants learned the intricacies of making emboss motifs on white marble of Makrana by sculptor, Shri Lokbandhu Sompura today. The session was organised on Zoom and broadcasted live on their Facebook page. In this session, the artist explained the step by step process of embossing on white marble, using tools like grinder, chisel and hammer.
In the session, artist demonstrated creating a ‘Rajwada’ elephant figure on white marble. For this, he first made a border with a pencil on a one and a half inch thick square-shaped white marble and then sketched an elephant inside it with a pencil. After drawing, the artist used a chisel and a hammer to create the shape on stone. Then the grinder machine was used to give depth to the shape. The artist said that the depth of the emboss should not be more than half an inch.
To give finishing to the shape, first a rough and then fair outline is done with the help of machine and chisel. The artist said that chisel is specially bought from Jaipur for this work. He said that earlier, due to lack of machinery, all the work was done by hand, because of which it took more time. After carving the figure of the elephant, the artist drew designs to decorate the elephant with a pencil. The artist said that the figure is polished after finishing and silicone paper is applied.
On Wednesday, 25 August (tomorrow), an online session on ‘Aadim Chitrakala’ will be organized by artist, Tasleem Jamal from Banswara. It will be held on Zoom and JKK’s Facebook page at 3 pm.
