Jaipur : During the monsoon session of Parliament, Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari raised the issue of reforms in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and demanded strict CSR policies for companies. She further said that in her constituency there are many industries like Hindustan Zinc and Nuvoco Cement that are using local resources for years but they have not contributed enough for the development of the area.
Speaking under Rule 377, the MP added that it should not be left entirely to the companies to decide the area of their CSR expenditure. There should be strict CSR policies for companies so that they have to spend a certain percentage of their funds for the development of regional infrastructure such as the construction of schools, roads, hospitals etc.
The MP also said that the private sector companies should be involved in the maintenance of monuments under the ‘Adopt a Heritage' scheme. There should also be clear guidelines for hiring 75% of the local workforce. The socio-economic development of different regions of the country would be immensely benefited by these policy changes, added Diya Kumari.
