Dubai, Unites Arab Emirates: Girls Planet 999, an original Korean reality show produced by CJ ENM, has announced its global premiere on the 6th of August 2021. The show's first episode is set to air in the Middle East on iQiyi, the popular Asian streaming service, at 15:20 (GST) / 19:20 (SGT).
The highly-anticipated competition will invite Sunmi from Wonder Girls and Tiffany Young from Girls' Generation as ‘K-Pop Masters’, and actor Yeo Jin-goo (Hotel Del Luna) as host and ‘Planet Master’. This groundbreaking team will select and train a new global girl group, with aspiring contestants from China, Korea, and Japan; the three ‘Planets’. Outside of the 'Master Council', the fans and audience will be known as the 'Planet Guardians', taking on the role of determining the ranks of each contestant, and ultimately determining the outcome of Girls Planet 999. 99 girls will compete for a coveted space in this girl group – which will undoubtedly make waves in the burgeoning K-POP movement in the Middle East.
K-pop Master, Sunmi is not only a former member of Wonder Girls that took the world by storm, but also a distinctive musician in her solo career. Tiffany Young, a member of Girls’ Generation, with millions of devoted fans across Asia and America will join Sunmi as they guide and enlighten contestants throughout the series. Contestants will also be under the mentorship of four Vocal and Dance Masters including Back Kooyoung (dance), Jang Juhee (dance), Lim Hanbyul (vocals) and Jo Ayoung (vocals).
The 99 female contestants will be taken through three gruelling, yet transformative months of training and mentorship. ‘Planet Guardians’ will be able to watch their captivating journey of growth over 12 episodes, broadcast on iQiyi in the Middle East and other streaming platforms world-wide.
Addressing the young and aspiring contestants, Tiffany Young, says, “Three months may sound like a long journey, but I would like to remind them to own every step along the way.”
Girls Planet 999 has released its theme song O.O.O. (Over & Over & Over), which has already become a viral sensation to critical acclaim. The choreography is designed by Dance Masters Back Kooyoung and Jang Juhee. “For this song, we are inspired by Planet prototype,” they say. “The choreography can demonstrate curves and toughness in these girls, as well as their aspirations.” After watching the choreography, even K-POP Master Sunmi confesses “It’s difficult, but I expect to see energy in these girls”.

Girls Planet 999 has received over 10,000 submissions from China, Korea, and Japan, and chosen 100 outstanding and promising girls. In response to fans around the globe, iQiyi has secured global streaming rights outside of Mainland China, Japan and South Korea.
Starting from August 6th 2021, viewers can watch Girls Planet 999 every Friday at 15:20 (GST) / 19:20 (SGT) on the iQiyi International app and IQ.com. With English subtitles available, fans can cheer for their favorite contestants all at the same time.
