Dubai, United Arab Emirates : Mohammed Abdul Khaliq, an individual struggling with obesity visited Zulekha Hospital to get help in reducing his weight. He weighed 200 kilograms and was also suffering from complications resulting from obesity such as hypertension, a slipped disc and difficulty in breathing. Following a thorough examination by Zulekha Hospital’s team of bariatric surgery specialists, as well as a consultation with a cardiologist, respiratory and endocrinology specialists, it was determined that the best course of treatment was a gastric bypass surgery.
The medical team was led by Dr. Tamer Saeed, Specialist of General Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery. Dr. Tamer was supported by Dr. James Zachariah, Specialist General Surgeon- (Bariatric, Metabolic & Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery) and Dr. Nagendra Prasad, Specialist General Surgery. The operation took one hour, and it was completed successfully without any complications. Mohammed was transferred to a normal patient room following the surgery.
Mohammed was very happy with the results, he says, “I was suffering from obesity that was interfering with my daily life. For me, movement was quite difficult and so was breathing. I also suffered from complications like high blood pressure.” However, he says he was hesitant about going for surgery and is now happy he took the right decision.”
He adds, “After meeting Dr. Tamer, and after experiencing the great attention the medical team at Zulekha Hospital gave me, I felt reassured and more comfortable taking the decision of surgery. Everything went well and I could walk right after the surgery. I was able to return home the next day following the surgery. Luckily, I didn’t need to be admitted to the intensive care and I did not experience any vomiting or any other post-operative symptoms. I actually resumed my normal everyday activities one week after the surgery. In two weeks, I lost over 17 kilograms. I am glad I took this decision.”
Mohamed recommends the surgery to anyone suffering from obesity, and encourages them to take the decision as soon as possible and change their lives.
Dr. Tamer explains, “Mohammed was suffering from severe obesity and an excess weight of about 200 kg that disturbed his life to a great extent. He was also suffering from complications of obesity, such as weak heart muscle, high blood pressure and difficulty in breathing. So we counseled him and helped him improve his lifestyle with a successful gastric bypass surgery, which didn’t take more than an hour. The patient was under observation for two days after the surgery until his condition stabilized and he was discharged from the hospital successfully without any complications."
Dr. Nagendra added, “We are able to take high-risk cases with a high BMI as our surgical department is well equipped with support from multi-disciplinary experts in case of any complication that can be managed under one roof.”
