Kochi: The two-day national seminar conducted as part of the 20th edition of Kerala Bamboo Fest began exploring ways to ensure sustainable income and strong market in the bamboo sector. It was suggested that the online market of bamboo products should be made more robust.
S. Harikishore IAS, Director (Industries & Commerce), Government of Kerala & State Mission Director, National Bamboo Mission-Kerala, inaugurated the two day national level seminar as part of the Kerala Bamboo Fest conducted together by State Bamboo Mission, K-bip on behalf of the Department of Industry and Commerce at Kaloor Jawaharlal Nehru stadium ground till January 17th.
He said special attention is necessary in all aspects of the bamboo industry, from cultivation to designing and marketing. Continued work will ensure the best consideration for the empowerment of bamboo farmers and artisans. S. Harikishore also commented that the seminar will pave the way for generating expert opinions for this.
Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Horticulture Commissioner & Mission Director National Bamboo Mission delivered the keynote address in the inaugural session of the seminar that is happening at Kochi Marine Drive Taj Gateway Hotel. K-bip, State Bamboo Mission CEO S. Suraj, Tripura Bamboo Mission Director B Vishwasree, Uttar Pradesh Bamboo Mission Director Ilango Krishnan, Sikkim Bamboo Mission Director Suman Kumar Sharma, Jharkhand Bamboo Mission Director Mukesh Kumar Sinha, State Bamboo Corporation Managing Director Benedict William Johns also spoke at the event.
Dr Prabhat Kumar, National Bamboo Mission Director, C. S. Sushant, Head of Bamboo Initiatives Division, NID Bengaluru, and Dr P. S. Syam, Executive Director, KU Life Tribal Start Up, gave lectures in the technical sessions on topics including National Scenario of Bamboo Development, Design Approach for Bamboo Sector, Tribal Projects.
National Institute of Design Bengaluru, Kerala Forest Research Institute, Bamboo & Cane Development Institute, Agartala, URAVU, Wayanad and other prominent government and non-government institutions are participating in the seminar. Seven technical sessions on bamboo development will be held from 10.30 AM and it will be followed up by discussions and summing up on today(January 13).
