Thiruvananthapuram, December 11, 2023: School students from the capital city came up with innovative ideas for cancer prevention as part of the "Fight Against Cancer Together" (FACT) campaign organized by KIMSHEALTH Cancer Centre. The aim of this initiative was to tap novel ideas from the younger generation regarding the wider spectrum of cancer prevention. Chinmaya Vidyalaya School, Vazhuthacaud, secured the first prize, worth Rs. 1 lakh, and an ever-rolling trophy for the campaign conducted among students from classes VIII to XII. Meanwhile, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kattakkada, clinched the second prize of Rs. 50,000, and Abdul Salam Rafi Residential School received the third prize of Rs. 25,000. Dr. M.I. Sahadulla, Chairman and Managing Director, KIMSHEALTH, distributed the prizes to the students at KIMSHEALTH.
Students from 15 schools brought in innovative projects related to cancer prevention and early diagnosis during the month-long campaign. They presented novel concepts for the upliftment of society, including an AI-based mobile application designed to facilitate a healthy diet and assess body mass index, as well as an innovative communication model utilizing social media to raise awareness.
"In the upcoming years, KIMSHEALTH Cancer Center plans to expand the campaign to more schools in the state. KIMSHEALTH, in putting forward such initiatives, is focusing equally on inculcating innovative ideas in students from a young age and educating the public by dispelling myths. The powerful tool of social media should be utilized for this purpose," said Dr. M.I. Sahadulla.
Dr. Zuhara PM, Director of Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine & Pharmacy Services, Reshmi Aysha, CEO, KIMSHEALTH Cancer Centre and CSR, Dr. B. Rajan, Clinical Director, and Jerry Philip, CEO, were also present at the event.
