Ernakulam, December 09, 2023: A 63-year-old man surviving an accident with severe spinal cord compression, and other serious injuries, was miraculously brought back to life. Gopalakrishnan, a resident of Karukutti met with an unfortunate accident after an autorickshaw toppled, and was immediately rushed to the hospital with a severe spinal injury. A spine fracture fixation procedure was done immediately to realign and stabilize the spinal cord. This prompt intervention of the team of doctors from multiple departments of Apollo Adlux Hospital, Angamaly, led by Dr. Sayuj Krishnan, Consultant Neurosurgeon, facilitated his speedy recovery.
The patient also had major injuries including chest and rib fractures, a flail chest and pelvic fracture. He underwent the surgical procedure of Ileolumbar spine fracture fixation which helped a speedy recovery of the injured spine, along with an orthopedic stabilization for fixing and stabilizing the hip joint. Further, a rib fracture fixation was also done for his flail chest to restore normal chest wall movement, aiding the healing process post the severe chest injury. Though initially under ventilator support, he recovered well soon. The expert medical team included Dr Sayuj Krishnan, Consultant Neurosurgeon, Dr. Jayakrishnan, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Prince Shanavas Khan, Orthopaedician, Dr. Prashant A Menon, Anesthesiologist, Radiologists, ICU doctors, Physio team and nursing staff.

His ribs were also fractured, posing breathing challenges, and a disoriented pelvis added to the complexity.
