Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 30: Setting a strong platform for global networking of Ayurveda practitioners, academics and stakeholders, the fifth Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF 2023), the largest ever Ayurveda conclave, will get underway here on Friday (December 1).
Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will inaugurate the five-day event at Greenfield International Stadium at Karyavattom at 2 pm. Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri V Muraleedharan, who is also Chairman of GAF 2023, will preside over the function.
Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan is the Chief Patron of GAF. Kerala Governor Shri Arif Mohammed Khan will inaugurate the valedictory session on December 5.
Shri. Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Ayush Minister, will inaugurate the National Arogya Fair organized as part of GAF on the opening day at 11 am.
The central theme of the event is "Emerging Challenges in Healthcare & A Resurgent Ayurveda.
Besides evolving strategies for projecting Ayurveda's huge potential in addressing the health challenges of the present world, the meet will also give a major fillip to wellness tourism by bringing together industry leaders and leading tour operators.
The biennial event is organized by the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush, the Government of India, Government of Kerala and various Ayurveda associations.
Shri Prithvirajsing Roopun, President of Republic of Mauritius, will be the chief guest of inauguration of the B2B Meet on Ayurveda-based medical tourism and products on December 3. Union Minister for MSME and Khadi and Village Industries Shri Narayan Rane will inaugurate the B2B meet.
Shri Sisira Jayakody, Minister of State for Indigenous Medicine of Sri Lanka, will inaugurate the International Cooperation Conclave on December 2.
On December 4, Dr. Munjapara Mahendrabhai, Minister of State for Ayush and Women and Child Development, will inaugurate the Health Care Professional Registry Enrolment Board of Ethics and Registration of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) programme.
Other dignitaries to address various sessions of the event include Smt. Veena George, Minister for Health, Woman and Child Development; Shri Antony Raju, Minister for Transport; Shri P Rajeeve, Minister for Law, Industries and Coir; Shri Shashi Tharoor, MP; and Shri Kadakampally Surendran MLA, among others.
The expo at a sprawling 2,50,000 square feet space featuring over 700 stalls is one of the major highlights of the event.
The National Arogya Fair at GAF will showcase a diverse range of medicinal plants and their utilization in Ayurvedic preparations. All major Ayush institutions in the country will put up their stalls at the expo. Also, there will be pavilions of 20 Ayurveda colleges.
The conclave will also deliberate the enormous potential of new age technology like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for globalizing Ayurveda.
GAF 2023 will witness convergence of international Ayurveda practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders. The event will be attended by delegations from over 70 countries, besides over 200 renowned speakers will share their expertise and explore the latest advancements in Ayurveda, through keynote sessions, plenary lectures, and invited talks.
Experts-led scientific sessions focusing on the latest scientific advancements in Ayurveda, high-level industry and institutional participation showcasing innovative Ayurveda-based products services, and research initiatives and presentations of posters and papers are the other highlights of the conclave.
A free medical camp, comprising 25 specialty clinics, making available outpatient services of top Ayurveda physicians will be open on all five days at the venue. Also, Rs 15 lakh worth of medicines will be distributed free as part of the medical camp. There will be a spacious ‘Ayurveda Aahar’ food court serving a wide variety of healthy food.
There will also be a Medicinal Plant Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) Meet and seminars on Vrikshayurveda and Mrigayurveda.
