Souk Madinat Jumeirah, the authentic Arabian bazaar which recreates a traditional Middle Eastern marketplace through distinctive architecture, commercial exchange and cultural entertainment, will continue to shine the spotlight on the rise of sustainable dining options as it readies to host the second Homegrown@Souk food festival from March 26 to April 2.
The extensive Homegrown@Souk bill will include two weekend Farmers’ Markets led by UAE-based agri-technology startup VeggiTech, which take place on Friday March 26 and April 2, a week-long schedule of food and beverage masterclasses and Souk Restaurant Week, an activation which provides diners an experience of specially curated menus across a wide range of venues.
Souk Madinat Jumeirah’s Homegrown@Souk initiative encourages an ‘act local, think global’ approach and features fresh produce that will come pre-packed in recyclable bags. Open from 9am to 2pm, the free-to-attend VeggiTech Farmers’ Market will provide visitors the opportunity to shop for healthy and locally sourced produce, and interact with homegrown producers to learn more about produce options grown locally.
Bags of produce will be available to purchase, while stocks last, inclusive of recipe cards from some of the popular restaurants at Souk.
MASTERCLASSES
The week-long schedule of masterclasses will provide a range of educational, fun and informative sessions at some of Souk Madinat Jumeirah’s most-popular restaurants, with options for kids and adults. The schedule includes:
Pasta making for kids at Trattoria on Friday, March 26 at 12-noon: It’s a party at Trattoria! Children will be able to make their own pasta, right from beating eggs, to kneading the dough and using tomato sauce from VeggiTech produce, to rolling their pasta. Once cooked, youngsters can choose their favorite sauce before devouring their handmade creation.
Mixed beverage-making masterclass at Americano on Saturday, March 27 at 4pm: Guests can learn the art behind different blends through a mixed beverage masterclass at Americano, the trendy hangout spot.
Grape pairing at The Meat Co. on Sunday, March 28 from 7pm: From group to grape to glass, explore how to find the best bubbles, what to pair it with, how it gets its sparkle, and much more at The Meat Co.
Mixed beverage-making masterclass on Monday, March 29 from 7pm: Guests can experience a guided, educational tour around Americano, Trader Vic’s, Maria Bonita, Trattoria and Folly, where they learn about the historical significance of various mixed beverages.
Souk Tasting Tour on Tuesday, March 30 from 7pm: Visitors will travel across the globe to delve into grapes from Italy, Greece, South Africa and Portugal. This Souk tasting tour will be conducted across Trattoria, Publique, Anar, The Noodle House and more.

SOUK RESTAURANT WEEK
Back for the second year, Souk Restaurant Week will offer diners the chance to experience a range of venues via specially curated menus. Three set menu options will feature selected dishes and drinks incorporating locally sourced ingredients.
Participating venues serving up options include Folly by Nick and Scott, the award-winning restaurant renowned for its strong focus on flavour and high-quality produce; sleek waterfront steakhouse The Meat Co.; vibrant Alpine restaurant Publique; and authentic Greek restaurant Taverna, overlooking the Souk’s scenic waterfront promenade, and known for a cozy ambience.
Restaurants offering set menu include Americano, the popular trendy hangout offering the very best in American cuisine and beverages, and Trattoria, Dubai’s most authentic and adored Italian eatery.
The menus are available across The Noodle House, the tasty, fun and informal Asian restaurant; one of Dubai’s longest running authentic Mexican restaurant Maria Bonita; Perry & Blackwelder’s, the popular smokehouse restaurant; and Al Makan, the traditional Arabic restaurant where heritage meets the needs of modern life.
