Kochi, November 16th, 2023: Aster Medcity and the United Nurses Association (UNA) have joined hands to launch the 'Helping Hands of Angels' initiative, aimed at delivering enhanced medical care, including organ transplantation, at the lowest possible cost to underprivileged children. This collaboration is a highlight of UNA's 13th-anniversary celebrations. Dr. Mathew Jacob, Senior Consultant - Hepato Pancreato Biliary & Abdominal Multi Organ Transplant announced the project officially in a press conference held in Ernakulam Press Club.
The primary objective of the 'Helping Hands of Angels' project is to ensure that financial constraints do not impede the medical treatment of children. Over the next six months, children under the age of 15 will benefit from this scheme.
UNA, recognized as one of the country's largest organizations with a membership of lakhs of nurses, is playing a pivotal role in this initiative. Fundraising activities, including contributions from UNA members and crowdfunding initiatives, will be implemented to support the initiative. Aster Medcity identify eligible children in need of medical assistance and facilitate their connection with UNA.
"More than 60 percent of the hospital's staff are nurses, and we are delighted to be a part of the 'Helping Hands of Angels' initiative by UNA nurses, with the shared goal of providing the best treatment to all children," said Dr. Mathew Jacob, Senior Consultant - Hepato Pancreato Biliary & Abdominal Multi Organ Transplant, Aster Medcity, Kochi.
In addition to this impactful initiative, UNA has introduced the Pratyasha scheme, dedicated to providing early access to blood in cases of medical emergencies. This scheme has been developed in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Aster Medcity. The blood donation camp held at Aster Medcity as part of Pratyasha initiative was inaugurated by Dr. Dinesh, Head, the Blood Bank.
“The blood collected from blood donation camps will be stored in the blood bank at Aster Medcity. Also, a data bank of UNA members, hospital staff, and hospital visitors will be prepared for providing blood in emergency situations said MS Sangeeta, UNA Aster Unit Secretary, and R. Rahul, Ernakulam District Secretary during the press conference.
