Angamaly, October 24, 2023: Four-year-old Riswa Fathima, a native of Kunnamkulam, Thrissur, who was seriously injured after being hit by a school bus, underwent emergency surgery successfully. She was saved through the timely intervention of the medical team at Apollo Adlux Hospital, Angamaly, Ernakulam. The emergency surgery was conducted with the coordination of various departments, led by the pediatric department.
In the accident that occurred in front of her house, the child suffered from broken ribs, severe lung damage, a broken pelvis, and uncontrolled bleeding from the vagina. Additionally, there was a blood clot in the chest and minor injuries to the liver and spleen. The child was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but was later shifted to Apollo Adlux Hospital for specialist treatment. Riswa arrived at the emergency department in severe pain, unable to stand up or sit down. Considering the critical condition, the child underwent emergency surgery under the leadership of Dr. Jude Joseph, Senior Consultant, Pediatric Surgery, Department of Pediatrics.
Vaginal bleeding was controlled surgically, and rib and hip fractures healed with proper care. After a week of expert care in the ICU, the child was transferred to the ward, where she recovered and left the hospital within a few weeks.
Dr. Jude Joseph stated, "Riswa Fathima's case was very complicated, and the coordination of various departments was essential. We are very happy that lung, spleen, and liver injuries could be cured by surgery and proper care. The medical team had taken all precautions to avoid pneumonia," he added. With over two decades of experience in pediatric care, Dr. Jude Joseph possesses special expertise in pediatric, hypospadias, neonatal, and pediatric urology surgeries.
Hospital CEO Sudarshan B said that Riswa Fathima's return to normal life marks the dedication of the doctors and other medical professionals at Apollo Adlux Hospital. "Within our Women & Child Health Center of Excellence, we encompass seven vital departments, including Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Minimally Invasive Gynaec & Robotic Surgery, Fetal Medicine, Neonatology, Pediatrics, Pediatric Surgery, PICU, and Pediatric Neurology," he added further.
