He said, “The Abu Dhabi leg of the Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu championship marks the conclusion of the of the world tour for the season, which travelled through Rio de Janeiro, Miami, Sydney, and London and reached the world capital of jiu-jitsu, Abu Dhabi. This shows the role played by the UAE in terms of spreading the game, producing champions, and consolidating its supremacy in hosting the most prominent world jiu-jitsu tournaments, which has earned praise from the whole world.”

“The brilliant performance of UAE male and female athletes in the tournament proves that the country has become a well-established base of elite players  from all over the world. This is a strong indication of the growth and progress achieved by UAE Jiu-Jitsu and its success in producing players who have succeeded in ascending the podiums, showcasing the country's dominance in the world of Jiu-Jitsu,” he added.

Elsewhere, Tariq Al Bahri, General Manager of the AJP, said the event has been a resounding success. “A new success story has been added to the series of successes of the capital, Abu Dhabi, in hosting the most prominent international jiu-jitsu championships and helping world champions to etch their names in golden letters in the tournament records.”

“Perhaps the most prominent feature of this tour is its impact on attracting fans and enthusiasts of the game to strongly be present in the stands and take advantage of this exceptional opportunity to watch their heroes on the ground,” he added.

Growing popularity

“Winning the gold medal in the category of Masters 1, 77 kg, is the result of hard work and continuous training that laid the foundations for my superiority over a group of the world’s most prominent players in this category,” said Spanish player Adolfo Cordon, a brown belt from the Louis Bernat Academy in Spain.

“The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam tournaments have contributed to enhancing the popularity of the sport of jiu-jitsu in my country, where we have witnessed a great turnout of Spanish players in the past years, and I believe this trend will continue in the coming years.”

Well deserved silver

In turn, Arnaud Piete, a black belt from the MKTeam Academy in Paris, who achieved the silver medal in the masters 3 - 62 kg category, expressed his joy: “All indications showed that I would achieve the gold medal, but I collided with one of the Brazilian stars of the game, who managed to settle the match in the last moments. I am happy with this achievement, although it does not rise to my ambition, and I will make sure to benefit from the lessons related to this match and apply them in the upcoming tournaments.”

As for Brazilian Robson Silva, a black belt from the A.F.N.T Academy, who was crowned with the masters 2 gold medal for under 85 kg, he said, "I am very happy with this honorable coronation, the wonderful moment, and the excellence in this powerful championship. Abu Dhabi championships have become a priority for me."
