The definition of what it means to be a woman is constantly evolving. On the occasion of International Women's Day 2023, we look at the young creatives and spirited women that continue to shine, marked by their new appointments, commendable recognition and most importantly, the ability to inspire. Even in a world riddled with challenges and uncertainty, these ladies continued to achieve the best in what they most believed in.
CELEBRITY MAKEUP MAVERICK- ARTI NAYAR
Before celebrities hit the red carpet looking impossibly glamorous or models appear in the glossy editorials of a magazine, there’s an army of people that work to make it all look effortless. One such name to reckon with is Arti Nayar, the highly personable Make-up & Hair stylist.
Arti Nayar fell in love with ‘all things beauty’ while watching Hindi films in her formative years and that’s what inspired her to be a part of the industry in some way, though she was ambivalent about which field to pursue then. Arti soon got an opportunity to work as an assistant costume stylist on the movie sets of Dostana and Wake Up Sid, but, in her time navigating the fashion landscape, Arti never forgot about her true calling and enrolled in a three-month makeup course at Bharat & Dorris. Arti’s career path led her to working with Rhea Kapoor on her first film production, Aisha, starring her sister and the fashionable actress behind several hit Bollywood films, Sonam Kapoor. It was at this time when Arti was introduced to the iconic makeup artist and hair stylist, Namrata Soni.
There was no one better than Namrata to mentor and teach Arti the tricks of the trade. Overcoming her shyness to ask Namrata for an assistant position and with a little encouragement from Sonam Kapoor, Arti finally ended up working alongside Namrata for a long time. A workaholic never off her feet, Arti Nayar now is Bollywood’s cherished makeup artist and has moved up the ladder with her constant persistence and diligence.
According to Arti, “I still have a long way to go in the industry. I want people to know my story and I want to continue to work in fashion and films.” This may sound humble and it is true that chance had a lot to do with my success but the determination and passion to always be learning and growing surpasses those unexpected moments of ‘being in the right place at the right time.’
So, here is to the one iconic entrepreneur who can replicate that J.Lo glow, transform you into Rapunzel on even bad hair days and keep you ‘cool as a cucumber’ as you get ready!
