Nairobi, Kenya 13th February 2023: CIC Foundation has announced sponsorship of twenty-two (22) needy secondary school students in the 2023 financial year. The twenty-two (22) students add to the ongoing sponsored sixty-seven (67) students by the foundation, bringing the total to 89 students under the scholarship program for the year.
Over KES 5,000,000 sponsorship will go towards catering for the students’ school fees and supplementary needs including school uniforms and day to day utilities. Using the education program, the students who are from different regions in Kenya will now be able to pursue their studies in secondary schools.
Speaking about the financial allocation, Mr. Patrick Nyaga, Group Chief Executive Officer at CIC Group said, “We are honored to support these bright needy students to get access to resources that will enrich their education journey. We understand that financial resources, and in this case school fees and personal effects such as books and school uniform are vital in ensuring that a student has a smooth learning experience. We believe that access to quality education is critical to building a strong nation. This sponsorship is our way of extending help where it is needed as a responsible organization.”
Presenting the cheques to the needy students, the CIC Foundation Manager Mr. Ben Simiyu said “CIC Foundation is proud to sponsor these students through their secondary school education. We believe in the power of education and are pleased to support bright underprivileged students to access quality education without interruptions. We remain committed to invest in the youth to achieve financial security, which is partly driven by acquiring quality education. We believe that through this sponsorship we are empowering the next generation of leaders who will further Kenya’s growth and development.’’
He noted the long-term view and the desired impact to empower communities saying that the foundation had a plan to partner with like-minded organisations. “We would like to see our society transformed and future leaders being nurtured early in life which will require us to collaborate with other institutions including cooperatives for greater impact,’’ he said.
The scholarship criteria is based on the student’s performance at the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education results, a parent or guardian’s cooperative movement participation and a child’s background. The foundation run activities supporting talent development, building future customers, sports, and public risk awareness but the main focus is promoting education and environment conservation. The education program is CIC Foundation’s flagship program.
