Neethu George receives Young Woman Engineer Award 2022 from IET India

The award was conferred for her cutting-edge research and initiative of conducting technical sessions for girls from underprivileged backgrounds.

Bangalore, 02 February, 2023: Neethu George, Technical Specialist Professional at Hitachi Energy was honored with Young Woman Engineer Award 2022 by The IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) India, a global engineering body at the forefront of innovation, advocating and leading technology usage for positive social impact. The award was conferred for her accomplishments in the area of science and technology and for becoming an inspiration to young women engineers. The felicitation was done by Shri Suresh Prabhu, Former Union Minister with 10 Portfolios and 6 Times Member of Parliament at the IET Future Tech Congress 2022.

Neethu was conferred the award for her key research contribution towards the development of fault location solutions for multi-terminal power transmission lines. These solutions help in identifying the location of faults on multi-terminal lines at an improved accuracy of 2 to 5 times compared to existing technology, without any additional hardware or communication requirements, and reduces the power supply downtime by 50% while reducing revenue loss for utilities. Being a researcher and technologist, she is actively encouraging the younger generation, especially women by conducting technical sessions for underprivileged girls and engineering students across universities from all over India. The award recognises potential for influencing and motivating others to follow her footsteps in engineering and shaping the contemporary engineering dialogue in India both within and beyond her organisation.

“The Award recognises outstanding contributions made by a woman engineer in India who has influenced the advancement of engineering in academic, business, or research and development environments. Neethu George, who broke the glass ceiling and distinguished herself as an outstanding engineer in cutting edge research, is the deserving winner of the IET India Young Woman Engineer award. I hope her work inspires young female engineers to follow in her footsteps”, says Shekhar Sanyal, Director and Country Head of IET India.

The IET India awards aim to reward and recognise engineering excellence across the Indian engineering landscape. The first edition of the IET India Awards was successfully concluded in 2021, in celebration of 150 years of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.  Now in its second edition, the institution received a large number of entries from individuals and organisations across the country. The awards were conferred across seven categories - IET India Lifetime Achievement Award, Young Woman Engineer Award, The Youth Engineering Icon, IET India Volunteering Award, IET India Mobility Award, IET India Engineering the Future of Work Award, IET India Future Tech Award.
