Jaipur, 1 February: The maiden edition of ‘Cinema Cappuccino’ took place in the Pink City of Jaipur. Cinema Cappuccino is a film club cum film festival which would hold monthly screenings of independent films with a strong artistic merit. The festival is a brain child of Jaipur’s Tanmay Singh, who is a filmmaker and screenwriter himself. Besides making much acclaimed festival films like ‘Marilyn Lights’, ‘I Am Vrinda’ and ‘The Masterpiece’, he has also penned more than 350 episodes of the famous television cop show ‘CID’.
Tanmay said that “the festival is started with an aim to promote and support ‘art house cinema’, as currently there is a lack of alternate venues where auteur based independent films can find exhibition. The idea is to give people a platform where they can enjoy watching some thought provoking films over a hot cup of coffee; and also get to converse & network with the cast and crew members of these movies.”
Acclaimed film editor Shreyas Beltangdy who has edited movies such as ‘Angry Indian Goddesses’, ’99 Songs’ and ‘The Last Film Show’ is the creative director of ‘Cinema Cappuccino’, and he believes the USP of this festival is that the people running the show are active filmmakers themselves. Shreyas says “our deep focus is not just on curating high quality movies but also on giving our fellow filmmakers a joyful screening experience which they much deserve after giving their blood & sweat to the art and craft of cinema.”
Director Sandeep Mohan’s new feature film ‘Danny Goes Aum’ had its ‘India Premiere’ here, and also won 3 awards. Sandeep won the award for ‘Best Film’, the best actor award went to Andrew Sloman and Anjali Patil got the award for Best Actress.
Social Entrepreneur Mr Sudhir Mathur, was the chief guest for the event and presented the awards to the team of the winning film.
Sandeep expressed great pleasure on winning 3 awards and thanked the city of Jaipur for showing love and enthusiasm towards his movie. Andrew too was extremely emotional about winning the best actor award since this is his debut film as a lead actor.
A highly acclaimed film from New Zealand called ‘The Gun’ (which has won more than a dozen awards world over) directed by Auckland based filmmaker and sonic artist TJ McIntosh, was shown in the international short film category. A poetry video was also exhibited which featured 4 poems from a poetry book called ‘My Epitaph’ written by Jagdeep Singh. The opening film of the festival was Tanmay Singh’s ‘The Masterpiece’ featuring Preeti Jhangiani.
As a closing note the festival director, Tanmay said that “India is a film loving country and all efforts would be made to take Cinema Cappuccino to different parts of the nation in its future editions”.
