Jaipur, 11 January: A two-day curriculum conclave was organized by the Faculty of Arts at Manipal University, Jaipur. Renowned educationist and Padma Shri Professor Pushpesh Pant was present as the keynote speaker on the occasion. Along with this, Professor Suninder Kaur Tung of Guru Nanak Dev University, Dr. Joya Chakravarty, former professor of Rajasthan University, Dr. Baldev Raj Gupta, former professor of Banaras Hindu University and editorial advisor of Dainik Bhaskar and The Drum website, as subject experts for discussion on the course. Editor Amit Bapna also participated in the seminar. The program started with the welcome of the Chief Guests. Faculty Director Professor Richa Arora welcomed all the guests. Dr. N. N. Sharma, Pro President, Manipal University greeted the keynote speaker Prof. Pushpesh Pant by giving him a bouquet.
Addressing the program, Professor Pushpesh Pant appreciated the contribution being made by Manipal University, Jaipur in the field of education. Speaking on curriculum development, he said that today's education should be job-oriented as well as inculcate moral values. The purpose of education is not only to provide human resources to the industry, therefore the design of curriculum development should be democratic and should involve the cooperation of all the participants. Also, it has to be kept in mind that the curriculum should be interesting, challenging, and exciting. Taking the program forward, Dr. N. N. Sharma, Pro President, Manipal University, Jaipur, in his address while highlighting the achievements of the university, said that in the last ten years, the university has grown from 250 students and 40 teachers to 12 thousand students and more than 600 teachers. Not only this, the university has been awarded A+ grade by NAAC. Various departments of the University have also been ranked among the top 100 institutions by several ranking organizations from India and abroad.
In the second session of the program, Dr. Joya Chakravarty, former professor of Rajasthan University, said that imparting education along with Indianness is the basis of the new education policy. During this, he remembered the women who promoted the Indian education system and highlighted the current usefulness of the new education policy. After this, Professor Baldev Raj Gupta, member of the Press Council of India, mentioned the journey of media education. He said that there have been many changes in journalism now. There is a need to create a new definition of news. Journalism is being done in 22 languages and more than 100 dialects in India. In such a situation, language and words are very important. This should also be considered in the process of curriculum making. This was followed by Amit Bapna, Asia Pacific Editor of Europe marketing content website “The Drum” which discussed the future of media. He said that new courses like Digital Media and Marketing need to be added to the curriculum. Professor Suninder Kaur of Guru Nanak Dev University threw light on the usefulness of the new education policy. He said that there is a need to pay attention to the new education policy while preparing the curriculum.
Earlier, the heads of various departments of the Faculty of Arts Dr. Mani Sachdeva, Dr. Monika Mathur, Dr. Vaishali Kapoor, Dr. Priyanka Chaudhary, and Dr. Bhawna Arya welcomed the guests. Teachers of the departments, alumni, and their parents were also present on the occasion.
