Thrissur: The South Indian Bank has launched an extensive anti-drug campaign ‘Drug Free Campus’ to raise awareness about the adverse effects of drug abuse among the student community. Mr Thomas Joseph K, Executive Vice President & Group Business Head, SIB, has officially inaugurated the campaign at CKMNSS Senior Secondary School, Chalakkudy, Thrissur.
While inaugurating the campaign, Thomas Joseph K, said “The goal of the campaign is to inspire young generation to act against the use of illicit drugs. Such campaigns are very important to raise awareness among students and South Indian Bank is always keen to lead such socially committed initiatives.”
This campaign was aimed at creating awareness about the evils of drug abuse. Bank’s initiative comes on the backdrop of a state-wide anti-drug campaign launched by Government of Kerala to put an end to the social menace of increasing drug abuse.
Mr Ramachandran P, Preventive Officer, Vimukthi, Kerala State Excise Department led the awareness session for the students. Ms Sheela Varghese, Principal, CKMNSS Senior Secondary School, Mr Rajesh I R, Deputy General Manager & Regional Head, South Indian Bank were also present at the event.
A poster making competition was conducted for the students on “Safe campus Healthy campus” theme and prizes were distributed to the winners. Students of CKMNSS Senior Secondary School also performed a mime.
SIB will also conduct ‘Drug Free Campus’ programmes at selected educational institutions in various parts of the state. Awareness classed led by officials from Excise department and Narcotic Cell will also be part of this campaign. The bank also plans to spread the campaign to different parts of the country as well. Events like poster making competition, mime, street play with the participation of students, parents and teachers will be organised to encourage active participation.
