Jaipur, 2 December: Umang, an organisation working towards enhancing the quality of life of individuals with various disabilities, celebrated the World Disability Day on Friday by forming a human chain and organising an awareness mela. This was informed by Umang's Director, Deepak Kalra.
She further said that in the morning, students of Umang formed a human chain carrying slogans focusing on employment of disabled. These slogans were made by the students themselves with the help of teachers. In the evening, an awareness mela was organised at the Jaipur Chaupati in Mansarovar, where knowledge and rights about disability were shared with the general public through music, dance and games. The response was overwhelming. A large number of students from ICG College and neighbouring educational institutions participated with great enthusiasm. People from the neighbourhood came in large numbers to support. Students of Umang organized flash-mob collecting crowds followed by interaction of audience with persons with disability who openly shared issues faced by them in Access, Education & Employment in their everyday lives. A number of people came forward and signed up to be volunteers/writers for disabled.
Director, Umang, Deepak Kalra also informed that the highlight of the evening was the connection formed between persons with disability and the public, breaking all communication barriers.\
