“The need of the hour is Technology for Humanity”- Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Former Minister of Railways at Day 1 of the IET Future Tech Congress 2022

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) successfully concluded the first day of the IET Future Tech Congress 2022. 

 

Bengaluru, 23rd November 2022: In his concluding remarks on Day 1 of the IET Future Tech Congress 2022, Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Former Union Minister with 10 Portfolios, 6 Times Member of Parliament, spoke on the need for technology innovation to focus on the needs of the future as well, and not just the present. “We need to make discoveries that will keep adding value, rather than creating the need to discover something else to neutralise what we had previously discovered. Like coal, for example. We must work in such a way that we do not leave behind an agenda for the future. While technology is playing a great role in enhancing various industries, the need of the hour is technology for humanity”, he said. 

 

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) successfully concluded the first day of the IET Future Tech Congress (FTC) 2022 on 22nd November at The Lalit, Bengaluru. The event featured spotlight segments on Manufacturing, Fintech, Future of mobility, Impact of Global Standards in India and Sustainability.

 

Addressing the event, Smt. Usha Sharma, Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan, Secretariat , said “It is essential for us to develop roadmaps for future technology to aid developments for industry and academia to come together through the guidance and insights of stakeholders present today. With The IET Future Tech Congress, we are well positioned to create a sustainable roadmap for stakeholders from upcoming fields to come together for todays theme to rightly capture the needs of the industry.”

 

The event also featured an address by Special Guest Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, MP- Lok Sabha, speaking on the digital transformation of India, he discussed the role of Digital India in bridging the digital divide and achieving digital inclusion. He also discussed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the transformation of the nation through technology, and the transformative impact of programmes like Make-In-India, Start-up India and Stand-up India. He concluded by highlighting the role of this conference in reflecting on this discussion 

 

Speaking at the inaugural session of the event, Shri K Rajaraman, Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, Government of India said, “One of the biggest challenges today is how we can drive growth in order to bring employment and progress in different spheres of life, and it is important that that growth be founded on financial and economic stability. It is also to get stakeholders together to brainstorm on how we can support the growth of various segments of India and enable our youth to become employable in various industries and around the world.”

 

The agenda for the day included three sectors (Manufacturing, Fintech and Mobility) and two themes under special spotlights (Sustainability and Standards) to drive discussions around the impact of key technology drivers namely AI, Blockchain and Digital Twin. The day concluded with the announcement of winners for the prestigious IET India scholarship award winner, and the winners of the second edition of IET’s Awards to recognise and reward changemakers across Indian Engineering.

 

The second day of the event will explore technology adoption roadmaps across Healthcare, Supply chain & Logistics and Mobility, while addressing the future of customer service and will conclude the focus on Mobility with a discussion on the E-Fast Framework proposed by GoI.
