Kolkata, November 24th, 2022:To celebrate and observe the World Heritage Week ( 19th to 25th of November), the Maulana Abul Kalam University of Technology (MAKAUT) in association with Murshidabad Heritage Development Society (MHDS) & ILEAD Kolkata organized a two-day ‘Murshidabad Heritage Conclave’ on 24th and 25th November 2022 at the Main Auditorium of ILEAD, Kolkata.
Many academicians, historians, heritage experts including the owners of Heritage properties across the state participated in The Conclave to raise awareness among the asset owners and people of the region to amplify the importance of preserving and restoring the invaluable Heritage of West Bengal.
Leading experts on Heritage presented their views and ideas to the students pursuing Heritage Studies across 200 colleges in West Bengal. The Conclave also motivated the participants to live through Heritage by organizing a two-day exhibition of rare artifacts and cuisines. The objective of the event was to ensure that the heritage of our state does not get lost in time and inspire the millennial and the genx to passionately pursue the idea of preserving and restoring the lost heritage.
Among those who presented their suggestions and ideas at the Conclave to the younger generation were Dr. Saikat Mitra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of MAKAUT, Dr. P.K. Mishra, Former Regional Director of Archaeological Survey of India & Chief of Heritage Cell of MAKAUT, Shri. Swarup Bhattacharya, Visiting Fellow of ASI & an expert on the boats of Bengal, Shri. Pradip Chopra, Chairman, ILEAD & President, MHDS and owners of private heritage properties, now restored.
Dr. Saikat Mitra, in address to the gathering, highlighted the importance of preserving heritage not only in Bengal but across the country as it provides the route to reach an individual’s identity. Dr. Mitra added that the government of West Bengal has been actively emphasizing in restoring and preserving the heritage of Bengal, which, in turn, is helping expand our horizons in Heritage Tourism leading to growth of economic indicators of a region.
While Dr. P. K Mishra focused on the need to create awareness about the preservation of our lost cultural ethos, Shri. Pradip Chopra encouraged all the participants to uphold the legacy of our rich heritage which is truly unparalleled in the world.
The two-day Conclave also gave the participants a delightful opportunity to savour exquisite Sheherwali Cuisines and witness a unique exhibition of rare artifacts.
