Kolkata, November 2022: Our ancient sages began the practise of giving thanks and expressing gratitude to the river Ganga, which is a very important part of our Hindu religion as well as a significant part of India's history. Spread across approximately 29 acres of sprawling green space, Alcove New Kolkata is India’s only high-rise residential project set by the serene banks of Ganges with direct access to the holy river. To honour the river Ganges and to pay gratification towards the river Ganga, this spiritually uplifting ceremony has become an annual tradition at the property since 2018.
Language and cultural barriers are no match for the transcendent power of Ganga Aarti, which pierces the heart and imparts a real sense of the divine. During Ganga Aarti, we gather together in joy, reverence, and calm, releasing ourselves from the concerns, strains, and tensions of daily life. This practise of paying respect and gratitude to the river Ganga has been carried over on for thousands of years now and the practice continues in limited places like Banaras and Rishikesh. More than 3000 residents witnessed the Aarti performed on the river bank by Param Pujya Swamiji Chidanand Saraswatiji (Munji) and Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswatiji (Parmarth Niketan Rishikesh) from Rishikesh draped in saffron colored robes raising huge brass lamps in honor of the River Goddess.
Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati (called Pujya Swamiji or Pujya Muniji by disciples), is the president and spiritual head of the Parmarth Niketan Ashram, a spiritual institution based in Rishikesh, India. He is also the founder and spiritual head of the Hindu Jain Temple in Pittsburgh. Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswatiji is a renowned spiritual leader and motivational speaker, based in Rishikesh, India. She’s the author of newly released #1 bestselling memoir, Hollywood to the Himalayas: A Journey of Healing and Transformation. Originally from Los Angeles, a graduate of Stanford University, and a PhD in psychology, Sadhviji has lived on the banks of the sacred Ganga river, in the lap of the Himalayas for more than 25 years engaged in spiritual service, wisdom teaching, sacred action, and deep spiritual practice.
Commenting on the evening, Ajay Kumar Shroff, Managing Director at Alcove Realty said, “When we came up with this concept of Alcove New Kolkata being on the banks of Ganges, which provides us with fresh air and immense spiritual vibes, we also decided that we would like to carry forward this ritual of Ganga Aarti every year. Since the year 2018, we have been offering Ganga Aarti at Alcove the New Kolkata ghat. Both that year and the following year, in 2019, we invited pandits from Banaras to conduct the Ganga Aarti. This year, residents got to see the rituals performed Param Pujya Swamiji Chidanand Saraswatiji (Munji) and Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswatiji (Parmarth Niketan Rishikesh) from Rishikesh.”.
