Dubai, November 18, 2022: Combining the ongoing Dubai Padel Cup and Dubai Fitness Challenge, 30 sports clubs and academies across the UAE are offering free 30-minute padel lessons to residents and visitors until November 27.
With the illustrious DP World Padel Championships taking place in the emirate earlier this month and amateur competitions ongoing alongside various community engagement initiatives, the population’s passion for padel is arguably at an all-time high. And now those keen to experiment, improve, or simply enjoy the game can do so for free this month.
The second annual Dubai Padel Cup is organised in conjunction with the Dubai Fitness Challenge, an initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, to bring friends, families, colleagues, and communities together and improve their health and wellbeing with 30 days of fun and fitness.
From Just Padel to Padel Pro UAE, Real Racquet Academy to The Alley DXB and a whole host of others, clubs across the Emirates are coming together to embrace the challenge, drive the sport’s growth, and ultimately help improve the health of the country’s residents. Those interested in registering for the free padel coaching sessions can secure a 30-minute slot by visiting https://www.dubaipadelcup.com.
“Given padel tennis was first introduced to the UAE less than a decade ago, the sport has made rapid strides in the country over the past few years,” said Ammar Al Awadhi, Head of Tournaments and Clinics for the Dubai Padel Cup. “The game has witnessed tremendous growth. Starting with around 70 courts three years ago, the country is now home to more than 350 courts with 85 clubs supporting the game. To see the sport further develop, we are delighted to offer a series of free coaching sessions across the UAE.
“Offering these coaching sessions during the Dubai Fitness Challenge initiative demonstrates our commitment to advancing His Highness Sheikh Hamdan's vision to broaden the game's popularity throughout the UAE, while also encouraging residents to pursue healthy lifestyles. We urge everyone to register for a free session and take advantage of the training offered by leading coaches and experts.”
The official Dubai Padel Cup tournament launched on October 29 and lasts four weeks, featuring a knockout league for amateur male and female players of all ages across beginner, intermediate, and advanced divisions. The region’s most exhilarating community padel tournament involves pairs of participants from across the UAE facing off for prizes and pride. With more than 2,000 participants expected before the end of the competition, the tournament serves to reinforce Dubai’s growing reputation as a global capital of padel and the sport’s epicentre in the region.
“Dubai Padel Cup is a competitive tournament, but has a huge focus on bringing the community together,” said Mohammed Alawadhi, who took part in the 2021 competition. “Last year really spring-boarded my love for the sport and not only did I become a better player, I was also able to build meaningful friendships with other members of the community. To all players on the fence, I would highly recommend taking the leap and registering yourself for the competition. I’m sure it will enhance your life, the way it did mine.”
Solaiman Al-Rifai of official sponsor the RAMZIQ Group, added: “Known as the racquet sport of the 21st Century, padel has had a surge in popularity over the past 25 years. Deemed as an easy to learn sport for all ages and ability levels, padel has rapidly become a beloved game, so we are thrilled to be working with Dubai Padel Cup to support the ‘Game of the Future’.”
Following a gruelling but fun day, the ladies Beginners Tournament saw Nina Nunez and Rona Gorre top the scoreboard with Lisa Blake and Tatyana Kutulaeva win the ladies Intermediate tournament. Meanwhile, a solid performance from all teams culminated in Arsham Mordi, Xavi de Benito, Nacho Gadea, Mohammed Aljanahi, Faris Abdullah Al-Janahi, and Alial Arif emerging victorious in the men’s Advance Tournament.
Taking place across more than 20 clubs, the Dubai Padel Cup further highlights the emirate's capacity to stage top-tier, inclusive, community sports events, promote active lifestyles, and boost athletic participation across all levels.
