Chennai, October 2022: SIMATS has made significant contributions to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Government of India's most significant cleanliness campaign, which was launched across the country as a national movement. On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, SIMATS School of Engineering (SSE) organized a Swachh Bharath Abhiyan Environment Cleanliness Awareness Program with National Service Scheme (NSS)student volunteers at Ulundai Village in Kadambathur Block in Thiruvallur District of Tamil Nadu State, India.
The Awareness programme was organized with the main goal of promoting health sensitive issues, a sense of well-being among participants, and cleaning up the village surroundings. More than 40 SIMATS School of Engineering (SSE) National Service Scheme (NSS) students began cleaning the Ulundai village, removing paper and plastic waste in the interest of preserving bio-diversity. SIMATS School of Engineering (SSE) has been committed to using long-term, sustainable practices to protect and restore human habitat. Such initiatives at SSE are indicative of healthy and sustainable urban development among India's youth.
National Service Scheme (NSS) student volunteers also taught the Ulundai Villagers about the Swachhta mission, which includes eliminating open defecation, converting unsanitary toilets to pour flush toilets, eliminating manual scavenging, municipal solid waste management, and promoting healthy sanitation practices. Such community-based collaborative conservation efforts encourages / educates students on the need of preserving mother earth and its resources.
