Indus Health Plus data indicate that females are at equal risk of getting heart disease as males

Indus Health Plus data indicate that females are at equal risk of getting heart disease as males

~41% of males and 23% of females have an abnormality in coronary angiography

CHENNAI: This year’s World Heart Day theme is ‘Use heart for every heart’ with sole purpose to focus on cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). To highlight the importance of Cardiovascular health, Indus Health Plus – a pioneer in preventive healthcare has observed trends related to heart health based on the healthcare check-ups conducted. The observation is on health checkups from the period April 2021 – March 2022 where it is clearly shown that 27% of the screened population had borderline conditions in 2D Echo and 5 % of females and 8% of males had an abnormality in the results during coronary angiography of heart. The sample size of the study was 9000 people.

Speaking on the health checkup data, Mr. Amol Naikawadi, JMD & Preventive Healthcare Specialist, Indus Health Plus said “Prevention is the most effective and efficient measure for counteracting the risk factors that can lead to developing heart failure or heart related ailments. There is abundant medical evidence proving that a person can lower or prevent such risk factors as high blood pressure, diabetes, and coronary artery disease. It requires maintaining a healthy weight and diet and modifying certain lifestyle habits. If a person already has one or more risk factors, tight control of blood pressure or blood sugar and coronary artery disease can help prevent or delay the onset of heart ailments. Even modest weight loss and an increase in cardio-respiratory fitness can significantly improve heart health. Besides that, genetic testing also plays a vital role to determine the genetic risk of CVDs and therefore, allows an individual to make lifestyle modifications accordingly.”
