Apollo Hospitals lauds police constable Dawa Naveena for her exemplary deed of saving a precious life with CPR!

Hyderabad, September 27th, 2022: The police constable Dawa Naveena, who saved a precious life with her exemplary deed, was felicitated at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, today. Mr Y Subramanyam, Regional CEO, Apollo Hospitals; while felicitating Naveena, lauded her presence of mind and persistence in reviving an unconscious and unresponsive woman, through CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), till she became conscious.

The 2020 batch constable Dawa Naveena revived a woman housekeeping staff Ranjitha, after she fainted and was badly injured in the stampede that occurred last week at Gymkhana Grounds. The charging crowd, on opening of the gates of Gymkhana ground for sale of tickets for India, Australia match, ran over and virtually crushed Ranjita. Naveena, who was on duty there, with her presence of mind intervened to save Ranjita. She found her unconscious and unresponsive, without wasting a second, Naveena administered CPR, in which she was trained by the Police Department. Despite continuous effort Ranjita didn’t revive, but Naveena persisted till she became conscious and later ensured her admission into a hospital for further treatment.

Dawa Naveena said, because of the stampede several women were lying down, we shifted them from there. This lady was also lying unconscious and people started attempting to revive her and took her to be dead. I did CPR and after five or ten minutes she became conscious and later we shifted her to hospital.

Commending Police Constable Dawa Naveena, Dr Sangita Reddy said, Dawa Naveena needs to be eulogised for her act of saving a precious life of a woman in utmost distress. Her persistence to revive the person despite not having success is to be extolled. Since Apollo Hospitals for the first time initiated CPR and lifesaving training in Hyderabad in 1996 as part of the emergency care, several underwent the training, but only a few like Naveena use their learning to save lives. She is a true epitome of inspiration and more following her footsteps could save several precious lives.

Mr Y Subramanyamwhatever Naveena learnt, she practiced and saved someone’s life and that is truly fulfilling. Apollo Hospitals trained several citizens from all walks of life in Basic Life Support, including corporate, police, school children etc. Those trained in Basic Life Support (BLS) can save lives and later send them for further medical management to a medical facility. We are proud of Naveena for her deed of saving somebody’s life and there can’t be anything more important. We want more and more people to learn this and help save people.

Dr Ravindra Babu, Director Medical Services, Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills; the prehospitalisation care in case of an emergency determines the final outcome and patient’s ability to recover. In such circumstances the golden period is limited to five minutes and during such time if we can perform Basic Life Support the patient’s recovery and his brain recovery chances improve. Immediate response by laymen trained in BLS at the accident site can enhance patient’s chances of recovery and survival. Because Naveena was trained in Basic Life Support, she could perform it and save the patient. Its not about taking the patient to the hospital, but performing BLS prior to that is critical for patient survival.

Dr Imron, Head Emergency Medicine, Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, said, at least one person from each family should be trained in Basic Life Support, CPR and first aid skills, in case of any emergency in the city or home or office, the patient can be given first aid and will be alive till he reaches a hospital for further medical care.

In its effort to spread awareness on this life saving skill, Apollo hospitals conducts BLS training sessions regularly at major organizations and corporates. It is heartening to see the results bear fruit and a life being saved.

Mr Y Subramanyam, Regional CEO, Apollo Hospitals; Mr Tejaswi Rao, COO, Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills &; graced the occasion.
