Chennai, September 2022: Water is the most discussed and debated topic on the planet, and a plethora of treaties and conventions have lauded its long-term benefits. SIMATS School of Engineering (SSE), Chennai's NSS unit participated in The Planet's Largest Coastal Cleaning Camp at Marina Beach, Chennai, to protect water resources.
The beach cleanup was organised in collaboration with an international NGO dedicated to wildlife conservation and environmental restoration. More than 40 NSS volunteers from SIMATS School of Engineering took part in the campaign.
After meeting at the beach, volunteers were given gloves, bags, and other safety equipment, as well as information about the purpose of the clean-up. The volunteers were given instructions on how to stay safe while cleaning up by the SSE-NSS Coordinator Dr. Azhaguraja.
The volunteers formed groups and cleared the beach of 20 bags of trash, vowing to do more in the future to protect the Earth's beaches and the organisms that use them. The SSEians dispersed after a quick snap at the beach.
