Thiruvananthapuram: The Institute of Analytics (IoA), the global professional body of analytics and data science professionals based out of UK, in association with the Kerala University has organized ‘Analytics and Data Summit 2022 – Analytics the Future’ at the university campus on Tuesday. Kerala University Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. P. P. Ajayakumar inaugurated the summit organized in cooperation with the UK-based International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC) with the aim of reaching out to Commerce and Computer Science teachers.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ajayakumar highlighted the importance of innovative programs in academics, especially those that impart analytical skills. “Skill embedded learning is turning out to be relevant in emerging areas and data science is one such area. Developing collaborations for learning and research will benefit students in enriching their learning experience,” he said.
While Kerala University IQAC Director Dr. Gabriel Simon Thattil presided over the function, ISDC Strategy and Development Executive Director Tom M. Joseph delivered the keynote speech. Tom M. Joseph emphasized the importance of analytics in the future. “Analytics will be highly essential for skill development in the future. It is inevitable for appropriate usage of data,” he said.
ISDC Partnership Head Shone Babu, Kerala University School of Management Director Dr. Resia Beegum, IMK Department Head Dr. K. S. Chandrashekar and ISDC Regional Manager Sharath Venugopal also spoke on the occasion.
Delivering a talk on the topic of ‘“Analytics - The Future”, Dr. Clare Walsh, Head of Education, IoA, said that in the changing global economy, professionals with expertise in analytics will have huge potential. She added that summit like this would help to nurture efficient professionals. Dr. Vinod Murthi, Head, IT and Analytics, ISDC, spoke on the topic ‘Building Teaching Talents for Analytics and Data Science’ and Dr. Bindu Krishnan, Professor & Head, Department of Data Science, Computer Science & Information Technology - JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) spoke on the topic ‘Sharing the Best Practices’.
Analytics and Data Summit will be organized at Calicut University on August 25 and M G University on August 26.
IoA is a not-for-profit organization that exists to promote greater awareness, understanding and innovation in Analytics. IoA provides its members with the opportunity to network with other professionals in the industry, learn about career development opportunities, share knowledge and expertise, access continuous professional development programs and carry the official designation of membership. Recognizing data analytics as a complex and broad field of study IoA had recently launched Analyst Competency Framework in the UK Parliament. IoA plans to introduce the framework in India, as part of the summit.
ISDC has been working in association with over 200 universities in India to impart skills of international standard to higher education students. In Kerala, ISDC has been closely in association with Calicut and Kannur universities and leading autonomous colleges for the past several years. ISDC had recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with M G University to offer courses accredited by Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
