Hyderabad, July 2022: L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) is set to launch a door-to-door community screening project in Maheshwaram Mandal of Ranga Reddy District under the CSR initiative of Siemens Healthineers, India. Under the project ‘Reaching out with Innovative Services for Eyecare (RISE)’, 50,000 people will be screened for eye ailments. The project would be inaugurated on 28 July 2022 at LVPEI’s Maheshwaram Vision Centre (Primary Eye Care Centre) by Smt P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Hon'ble Minister for Education, Government of Telangana.
Access to good quality eye health services globally is a key enabler to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This can be achieved by strengthening and ensuring Universal Eye Health coverage for all. L V Prasad Eye Institute, a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness, is dedicatedly working towards this. The project ‘RISE’ fulfils the goals set for Universal Eye Health coverage.
Under this project, the focus will be on – making quality eye care services accessible and affordable to the population of Maheshwaram Mandal through door-to-door eye screening programs and optimally utilizing technology for addressing their vision problems. There will be a special focus on the vulnerable population - the elderly, women, and children. Those identified with eye problems will be referred to LVPEI’s Vision Centre (Primary Eye Care Centre) in Maheshwaram for a comprehensive eye examination. Spectacles will be dispensed for correction of refractive errors. Those in need of surgical intervention for cataract will be referred to LVPEI’s Secondary Eye Care Centre in Kothur in Ranga Reddy District. Low vision rehabilitation services will also be provided. All these services will be provided at no cost to the patients, without compromising the quality of care.
Smt P Sabitha Indra Reddy said, LV Prasad Eye hospital is reputed for the best possible eye care, they will be doing door to door eye check-up for eye ailments in our Maheshwaram Mandal, will also do free surgeries and will provide free spectacle to those needing. This is a pilot project they are undertaking in our constituency. It is a boon for all those who can’t afford treatment or go to distant places to seek treatment and also for those elderly and women at home who don’t want to burden their family and neglect their health. They have also established a clinic near Andhra Bank in Maheshwaram, anyone needing treatment can go to the clinic. Since the formation of the Telangana under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister KCR, the government has been extending utmost priority to healthcare and making efforts to reach medical services to the remotest place. Hospitals and PAC centres are being strengthened to ensure availability of all kinds of tests and surgeries. In fact up to 132 tests are being done free of cost to ensure that poor people are not inconvenienced and don’t incur expenses towards health problems. No other state in the country has been able to match the kind of care KCR has enabled in our state. Every effort is being made under his leadership to ensure that every pregnant women gets care right from the first month, delivers baby at the Government hospitals and is dropped back at her home in a government vehicle after discharge, this is to ensure that pregnant women don’t fall victims to unnecessary caesareans done by private hospitals. The Government besides providing KCR kits is also depositing Rs 13000 for a girl child and Rs 12000 for a male baby, in the Bank.
