Kochi, July 02, 2022: Muthoot M George Foundation, the CSR arm of Muthoot Finance Ltd., felicitated 30 deserving students with scholarship to pursue their professional education. Under the Muthoot M George Professional Scholarship 2021-22 Program, students pursuing degree in professional courses like MBBS, Engineering, and BSc Nursing were awarded a scholarship worth Rs. 48 lacs.
The scholarship was awarded to students with an annual family income of less than 2 lakh and who have scored at least 80% at higher secondary level. The amount of scholarships are Rs. 24 lacs for 10 MBBS students, Rs. 12 lacs for 10 BTech students and Rs. 12 lacs for 10 BSc Nursing student.
The event took place on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Avenue Regent, Mahatma Gandhi Rd, Jos Junction, Pallimukku, Kochi. It was attended by Chief Guest – Hon’ble Justice Gopinath P, High Court of Kerala and presided over by Mr. George Alexander Muthoot, MD, Muthoot Finance. Dr. Maria Varghese, President, IMA Kochi, Dr. P C Neelakandan, Principal, Muthoot Institute of Technology & Science, Dr. Haneesh, Vice President, IMA Kochi felicitated the ceremony and the students were provided with the first yearly disbursement amount.
Muthoot M George Professional Scholarship is a CSR initiative by Muthoot Finance to provide scholarships to students to continue their higher education seamlessly. The initiative was launched in 2017 to uplift and support students from financially weaker sections. Muthoot Finance has assigned and disbursed a total spend of Rs.1,58,20,000 (2017-2022) towards the program with several students being benefited from the initiative over the years. In the coming years, Muthoot Finance is actively planning to introduce more such schemes to support the education of the students from underprivileged section.
Speaking about the CSR initiative, Mr. George Alexander Muthoot, Managing Director, Muthoot Finance said, “We started this CSR initiative to support meritorious students who have the will to excel in life. These young talents are the future of the nation and to witness their dreams and desires turn into reality energises us. We believe that academic scholarships are one of the most direct ways to give back to the community and therefore, we pledge to continue on this journey.”
Speaking at the event, Hon’ble Justice Gopinath P, High Court of Kerala, Chief Guest said, “It gives me immense pleasure to be the part of such an initiative. Despite the critical challenges we have faced during the pandemic, I congratulate students who managed to excel in these hard times. While the government has been taking various initiatives for the learning and development of young leaders, I believe that uplifting the society to reap the benefits of such initiatives is a collaborative effort. I applaud Muthoot Finance to come together and find solutions to transform the lives of these students.”
With various CSR initiatives, Muthoot had been associating with students to provide support for their higher education. Last year, 40 students were facilitated with a scholarship worth Rs. 4.45 lacs under the Higher Education Scholarship Program 2020-21.
