Horti Mission’s Arka vertical vegetable garden comes up at Technopark

Horti Mission’s Arka vertical vegetable garden comes up at Technopark

Thiruvananthapuram: Technopark has gone in for a major and novel initiative to promote productive farming overcoming space constraints with the support of Kerala Horticulture Mission. The Arka Vertical Garden, developed by Benguluru-based Indian Institute of Horticulture Research under `Azadi ka Mahotsav’, has come up in front of Nila at Technopark here with the backing of the Kerala Agriculture Department. Technopark Assistant General Manager (Customer Relationship) Vasanth Varada inaugurated the initiative planting vegetable shoots in the garden. Technopark IR and Administration Manager Abhilash D.S, Kerala Agriculture Department Assistant Director Geethakumari V.S and Agriculture Department Field Assistant Shuaib joined in the planting ceremony.

“Getting maximum yield from limited space is what makes the Arka Vertical Garden ideal, said Vasanth Varada. In the present times, farming has gained greater relevance and become inevitable in our march forward in self-sustenance, Vasanth noted. It is a proud moment for Technopark as this has been a major step in merging technology with eco-friendly farming and the Arka Vertical Garden is a classic template for this” Vasanth added.

“Horticulture Mission’s Arka garden, aimed at promoting pesticide-free vegetable cultivation will be made available to the public from February 14, Geetha Kumari V.S. said. The success of the gardens at the Secretariat and the Assembly and the Agriculture Department and the Kudappanakunnu Karmasena offices has prompted the mission to spread it across the State, she added. Such gardens are to be launched next week at Kochi Metro and the Cochin International Airport. In all, 340 such units will be established of which 10 would be at public places. It is proposed to have such gardens in a big way in the Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur corporation areas,” Geetha Kumari said.
