As the days get shorter, evenings get darker and a chill hits the air, many of us are turning our thoughts to winter clothing and wrapping up warm.
We caught up with Savile Row trained tailor and menswear designer Oscar Udeshi of the Marbella atelier, Udeshi, and asked him how men can keep snug and wrapped up this winter, whilst looking good at the same time.
These are the top five essential fashion items he recommends men have in their wardrobe over the coming months.
Flannel Shirts
Flannel has long since cast away its reputation as being only for lumberjacks and country folk, and is now one of this winter’s hottest must-haves. Understated, versatile and totally on-trend, flannel shirts offer a step up in style from the casual t-shirt or sweatshirt look. Perfect teamed with smart trousers at the office or jeans for the weekend, flannel shirts are the ultimate for warmth and comfort, offering a softness that can be hard to find in other winter fabrics.
Udeshi tailors flannel to order and to measure, promising the perfect fit for any man.
Knit Shirts
Made of premium Italian jersey, the beauty of Udeshi’s fine knit shirts is that they look like a regular shirt yet allow for unbelievable comfort. Rather than limiting movement with a restrictive crisp texture like other shirts, Udeshi’s silky knit shirts stretch and feel like your favourite soft washed T-shirt, only even more luxurious.
Beautifully tapered, they feature a soft Craig collar, two button cuffs with a flat hem, single needle stitching throughout and Italian mother of pearl buttons. Available in white, blue melange and navy melange, they’re the ideal men’s shirt for stylish daywear or casual evening engagements.
Great Coat
Designed as a nod to the traditional yet elegant coats worn by the Russian military, Udeshi’s range of ‘great coats’ are long, warm and thoroughly striking. As a throwback to times gone by, these coats boast a level of authority and timeless style that garner attention and respect. Classic, handsome and functional, they’re soft enough to allow for freedom of movement, whilst being sturdy and practical to keep you warm during the cold months.
Featuring a special cuff design much like the original military coat, the sleeves can be lengthened, or the cuff even replaced. The adjustable half-belt of the original has also been retained, allowing for a double-breasted coat for use in cold weather, and a more open front for ventilation when days are warmer.
Knit Cashmere Scarf
Scarves are as much a fashion item in their own right and Udeshi’s cashmere knit scarves are no exception. Made in Scotland, their range of cashmere scarves will nurture you in warmth as they nestle luxuriously around your neck, long enough to be wrapped around snugly and tied in fancy Italian knots. The ultimate must-have for keeping the wind off your neck this winter, they’re available in a range of classic pastel hues and bright contemporary colours.
Shearling Gloves
What could be better than a pair of gorgeous gloves that keep your hands toasty throughout winter and are planet friendly at the same time too? Because Udeshi’s shearling gloves are tanned, cut and hand sewn by women who live on the same Portuguese mountain as the yearling sheep that provide the pelts, they have an extremely low carbon footprint.
Not just lovingly handcrafted, they’re soft, warm and hardwearing. Available in five colours, they’re neutral enough to complement any outfit, keeping your hands warm yet moveable right throughout winter.
