SCR beats RCF, qualifies for face off with seeded teams in quarter finals at the 'Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament’!

Hyderabad: The opening match of the third day at the ‘Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament’, had SCR beating RCF Kapurthala, at the SCR Sports Complex, Secunderabad. Captain MG Poonacha’s superlative performance, scoring two goals tilted the match in SCR’s favour. This win catapulted SCR into the quarter finals for a face-off with three seeded teams Group ‘A’.

 

Karanpal Singh enabled RCF to take the lead in the 17th minute of the game by converting a penalty corner, however SCR’s Captain MG Poonacha’s penalty corner conversion in the 21st minute and Lovepreet Singh’s field goal in the 27th minute gave SCR a 2-1 lead during halftime. Abhay of RCF levelled the scores after halftime through a field goal in the 38th minute. A strong resurgence by SCR in the last minutes of game gave them an decisive lead of 4-2. The last two goals were scored by Pratap Lakkra through a penalty corner in the 54th minute and MG Poonacha through a field goal in the 60th minute. 21 minutes into the game a Yellow card was shown to the RCF Captain Gurpreet Singh. MG Poonacha of SCR was declared the man of the match.   

 

Results: SCR - 4 (MG Poonacha – 21st minute – Penalty corner; Lovepreet Singh - 27th minute – Field goal; Pratap Lakkra -  54th minute – Penalty corner & MG Poonacha - 60th minute – Field goal) bt RCF Kapurthala – 2 (Karanpal Singh - 17th minute – Penalty corner & Abhay - 38th minute – Field goal ). Green card – Mahipal Giri, SCR – 37th minute & Yellow card – Gurpreet Singh, RCF – 21st minute. Man of the match : MG Poonacha of SCR.  

 

Game - 2: Indian Navy vs Indian Air Force

 

Indian Navy’s goal scoring spree in first 20 minutes, seals the game in its favor at the Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament!

 

Hyderabad, November 16th, 2021: Indian Navy overwhelmed Indian Air Force by 6-2 in the second match on the third day at the ‘Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament’, being held at the SCR Sports Complex, Secunderabad. It gained a place in the quarter finals in Pool ‘B’ with this win. Right from the word go, Indian Navy played an aggressive hockey, putting extreme pressure on IAF defence. It scored 3 quick goals in the first quarter and thereon IAF could never recover. Its current form and the big win paves the way for Indian Navy to aim for a semi-final berth in the tournament.

 

In the match between the two Defence teams, Indian Navy went on a goal scoring spree and scored all the 5 goals within the first 20 minutes of the game. It all began in the 2nd minute of the game, with Sunny Malik scoring a field goal, followed by a penalty corner conversion by Nitesh in the 8th minute; a field goal by Rajbhar Pawan in the 11th minute; a field goal by Sunny Malik in the 19th minute and a field goal by Aakib Rahim in the 20th minute. Though IAF team came back to score two consolation goals, Lovedeep Singh converting a penalty corner in the 24th minute and Sukhdev Singh scoring a field goal in 51st minute, but couldn’t make a dent. Indian Navy’s Jugraj Singh went on to score a field goal in the 58th minute, the 6th for the team. Sunny Malik who scored two goals for Indian Navy earned him the man of the match.   

 

Results: Indian Navy - 6 (Sunny Malik - 2nd minute - field goal; Nitesh - 8th minute – penalty corner;  Rajbhar Pawan - 11th minute - field goal; Sunny Malik - 19th minute - field goal; Aakib Rahim - 20th minute – field goal & Jugraj Singh - 58th minute - field goal) bt Indian Air Force – 2 (Lovedeep Singh - 24th minute - penalty corner & Sukhdev Singh - 51st minute - field goal). Green card : Parteek Singh, Indian Navy – 25th minute; Aamid Khan Pathan, Indian Navy -28th minute;  Dilip Pal, IAF- 25th minute & Sukhdev Singh, IAF, 45th minute. Man of the match : Sunny Malik, Indian Navy. 

  

Game - 3: Army Xl vs Punjab National Bank

 

First quarter final match played between Army Xl and

Punjab National Bank, ends in a draw !

 

Hyderabad: The first quarter final of the ‘Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament’, held today at the SCR Sports Complex, Secunderabad, involving seeded teams, was played between Army Xl and Punjab National Bank and ended in a draw with both the teams scoring 1 goal each. Though it was an exciting match, no team played well enough to win. Both the teams scored the goals at the fag end of the match. Punjab National Bank took the lead in the 50th minute through a field goal by Naveen Anil, immediately in the 53rd minute Army Xl’s Harman Singh, levelled the score with a field goal. Ulsan Mundu of Army Xl, was declared the man of the match

 

Results: Army Xl - 1 (Harman Singh – 53rd minute - field goal) drew with Punjab National Bank – 1 (Naveen Anil - 50th minute - field goal). Yellow Card : Budu Tuti, Army Xl – 56th minute; Inderpal Singh, PNB – 57 & Green card : Satender Dalal, PNB – 30th minute. Man of the match : Ulsan Mundu, Army Xl.
