Jaipur: Viewers had the opportunity to travel to the past and learn about the ways of prehistoric mankind in an online session ‘Aadim Chitrakala’ by artist, Ms Tasleem Jamal today. The session was organised by Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) on Zoom and broadcasted live on their Facebook page. It taught the participants about the images created by man in pre-history and the stories those pictures tell. Throughout the session, the artist also tried to make the participants understand what life was like in the prehistoric ages.
The artist began the session with a demonstration of sketching a cow using charcoal on paper. She first sketched the cow using a pencil then added depth to it using charcoal. After she completed the sketch, she used an eraser to add shading. The painting was cleaned up from time to time using a paintbrush. She explained that a fixer could be used to increase the longevity of the artwork and to ensure that the charcoal does not come off. Following this, she also drew a rhinoceros being hunted by prehistoric men.
Talking about the prehistoric ages, Ms Jamal said that prehistory is that period when mankind was in existence but there is no written record of it. Using tools made from stone the prehistoric man carved rocks to create these shapes which they would use to communicate, record and plan hunts. Prehistoric humans were gipsies who lived in small groups and hunted. Their lives were dependent on animals and birds. They would eat fruits, meat and don clothing made from animal skins.
Tomorrow, 26 August, will be the concluding day of the online session, ‘Aadim Chitrakala’ by artist, Ms Tasleem Jamal. It will be held on Zoom and JKK’s Facebook page at 3 pm.
