Thiruvananthapuram, June 5: Individual initiatives are as important as collective efforts in fostering sustainability of Nature for future generations, former Chief Secretary Dr V P Joy emphasised while addressing the scientific community on World Environment Day at the CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST) here.
Dr Joy was the Chief Guest at the World Environment Day celebrations at the CSIR-NIIST campus.
Dr Joy also visited the state-of-the-art laboratories at the NIIST campus and held discussions with scientists on various projects of NIIST and their socio-economic impact on society.
Presiding over the function, Dr C Anandaramakrishnan, Director NIIST, highlighted the pioneering efforts of NIIST in environmental management, particularly in waste water treatment.
Planting of tree saplings was the highlight of the Environment Day celebrations on the campus.
